Get into Underwriting asap. It’s the core of the company, more challenging work, and way better pay.

Will also be very automated in the near future

Think about opportunities in IT. Transferable to other industries if you decide insurance isn’t it.

like

I'd tell you to cast your net as wide as you can, talk to people in the different areas of your company, ask about which managers are good/bad, and be open to opportunities.

Automation is hitting everywhere as others have said, both in Claims and Underwriting at different companies.

IT is amazing personally and there are good career paths that don't entail going back to school to learn to code if you don't want. I'm in Change and Project Management and have gotten on several interesting projects.

Claims. It is a business need that will always be around. It has so much potential for upward movement.

like

Yeah, it also has upwards of 50 hours a week just to stay afloat

Find industries that you have. passion for and let your manager know what they are.

I handle insurance for transportation, warehousing, and manufacturing accounts because those industries fascinate me which makes the job more fulfilling.

like

If you enjoy influencing others, I would suggest leadership. There will always be a need for Phone leadership.

Depends on your interests, I've seen people go to Adjuster trainee, or UW or even to become Agents.

Studied accounting and finance but worried about the future of this profession. Currently working in Forensic Consulting but want to leave. Should I go back to undergrad and get a computer science degree? I honestly want a career where I could at least potentially make 600 k per year. I feel in accounting it’s near impossible. Additionally, I’m sick of people looking down on me. My gf is getting a PhD in a social science and gets way more respect then me. I am 25 also. HELP

Does anyone ever question the possibility of going to law school?

I’m a 23yo female legal assistant working/living in Canada. I am completing my BA in hopes of continuing with law school after. But, I just turned 23 and I’m anxious about my love life and starting a family. I haven’t had a boyfriend since 2019 and I’ve poured my heart and soul into my education & career.

I’ve always wanted to go to law school since age 14. But I also want a husband/kids. I don’t feel like I can have both.

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.
