I think it's totally helpful to understanding your partner, especially if they have very different love languages than you. I have a hard time with the overall premise though because at some point it seems like I give and receive love through all of the love languages and it's quite difficult for me to choose which one matters most? So it's hard to tell my partner, actually I really need all 5 of these love languages haha. Anyone else feel that way?
I wanted my spouse to read this book for years because I always felt like he and I never loved on each other properly. For years he refused to read it because he didn’t believe it had any merit
Tried the discussion date concept but he seems to shut down when I indicate I’m trying to do something to consciously or intentionally better our relationship. He thinks its inorganic or not genuine and seems to put up a wall.
It’s difficult, but can get easier when one is intentional! Just like every other thing in life. Like the love language can change with time Cos I discover when we were dating I appreciated the gifts and all, right now I want us to spend more time together. And all these takes the two of us to be invested in it
I don’t follow them super closely. But I think the love languages are a really good jumping off point to figuring out what you want/need in the relationship and also understanding that they may be completely different from you in some ways. Things that are obviously nice to them may not be to you, and so on.
Super useful tool for me. 23 years of marriage and happy. We keep applying those principles today.
There is an app for couples named Flamme. Check it out.
I recently took a Fishbowl podcast on Love languages.
As a relationship coach I get this a lot that how and which love language do we use.
So we have to use on our Self first then expect or rather not expect.
Plus sit and talk about what you like and what her likes are.
Based on that create an SOP and follow it.
