There is no official age cutoff at most firms, other than the mandatory retirement age for partners at B4.

Around age 50 to make the numbers work due to mandatory retirement at age 62
And it takes 10 years to vest in partner pension so if your not partner by 50 you missed the boat
Normally retirement is 65 (sometimes 67) and pension is based on 20 years at partner, so 45ish
What do you mean pension is based on 20 years? You have to stay 20 years to get the pension?
Hey not an English main here. What do you mean by age cutoff?
Never heard of? I know literally dozens who’ve made the jump, including 7 partners I can think of off the top of my head who came from McK.
I was asked to come over to build something and it sounded like fun. It paid more than I was making (I mean, they had to make me that kind of offer, to make it worth my while) and now I work in a firm that has far more breadth of capability than MBB does, which sometimes comes in handy. And I have a pension. I don’t have anything at all bad to say about MBB, but I’ve never regretted making the switch.

Why is there a mandatory age retirement?
And it would get too expensive for the Ponzi scheme to keep working
There is no age cut off per say, but generally it doesn’t make much financial sense for someone to join the partnership after age 50. When there’s a ten year vest, and a mandatory retirement at age 60 if not extended, better to be a very well paid MD.

When you were having those conversations, did you ask that person which they would rather? Some people don’t plan to work past 60.
U.S. forced partner retirement is 60. Must have 10 years to get pension
