Eventually got them to budge...to 85k...
Was the sign on bonus in Marriott points?
I would probably burst out laughing at that OP.
I had an information security recruiter pitch a $50K (yes, fifty thousand) role in Manhattan (NY, not Kansas) that requires 15 years of experience. They’re going to have to pay roughly four times that for what they want to even talk seriously to anyone. I politely declined to pursue it and offered some insight to the current labor market in this skill set.
To your point OP, sometimes the recruiter knows how insane it is.
Few years back, had a recruiter reaching out for a boutique firm looking for someone with 2-3 years of consulting experience to move and had a salary cap of 60k. Recruiter basically told me most people laughed at him, so he’s collecting the salaries of everyone who turned him down to get a higher budget
Some recruiters actually have some sense...
I got offered a similar pay cut to work for an NBA team. “Unfortunately you have to take that kind of pay cut to work in sports. But you get to go to every home game!” Which was code for “you are required to go to every home game”. So, hard pass
If you wanted to go to every game that badly you could keep your current job, buy a bunch of season tickets for friends and family, and still come out ahead!
Crestron offered me $68k. The recruiter said that as a consultant at your current job you pay for all your benefits and taxes. Coming to us as an employee we pay all of that. 🤣🤣🤣. I was a senior at that point at six figures and told them I need to be at $130
This recruiter needs to comprehend the difference between an independent contractor/consultant and a salaried employee ...
A part time gig (20 hr / week) with an hourly rate of $15 (but it may go up to $18 DOE)
I heard directors at delta only make 110-120k...I know consultants who get there after 2 yrs
Yeah that seems low, delta pay isn’t THAT low. It’s not FAANG level tho
A 30k pay cut to go to a boutique firm with very little growth potential.
I was kind of insulted they thought they had a realistic chance
Recruiter/Friend told me $150K was a great offer at Allstate for IT Director. I laughed, and she told me I would "have to take a haircut" coming from consulting... industry won't pay you the same. Ummm... Bye.
OP - which city was the Pepsi job in?
Plano is awesome.
I just left NYC to take a job in DFW. Took a small pay cut and definitely don’t regret it. Ask me if you have Qs.
