Managing director was in line for president but lost. They are stand ins when the president isn’t available. President is the role that goes to a lady so the company appears woke and female friendly. CEO is the male boss man who is still in charge, always.
They can make rules and stuff. Like sometimes how an office is organized from a staffing perspective
When I worked at 72 they changed their managing director title to president because it played better in new biz meetings (among other reasons I’m sure). Clients (particularly in some regions) would prefer to meet with a president rather than an MD.
