What’s the point of providing OID on a loan? Why not just increase the interest rate instead?

You can book an immediate fee income at close and you can skim a portion of the oid when you syndicate.

OID is earned / amortized over life of the issue, however OID skim is indeed booked as immediate income to the selling bank.

Debt issued with an OID is usually prepayable. There is a risk the investor in the debt does a ton of work to underwrite and close the deal, only to be refinanced out weeks later. It happens. In addition to what A1 indicated, it gives the investor some comfort they would earn something on the deal if it were to prepay earlier than they modeled.

A separate attorney was hired to handle that part before I was hired to handle all other matters, including settling a $500,000 debt with the...

Also, is it worth spending upto 20 lacs on a car? Why asking because constantly gets feedback from everyone includes friends, family and wife that live your life and don't think much if you can afford. I don't know if i can afford it not. But I am considering one time as well as running cost. My CTC is more than 35 LPA.

What’s the general guidance on the order to maximize retirement contributions for tax benefits for an normal individual and for a self employed/small business owner before moving to taxable accounts or alternate vehicles like cash value life policies?

For self employed: max SEP IRA/solo 401k->max roth IRA->max trad IRA->max HSA
