What’s it like at Verizon?
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

Proceed with caution. I worked at Golin and was expected and asked to cancel multiple vacations during my time there. Sick time was frowned upon, and there was no WFH flexibility. This was pre-pandemic but I can’t help wonder if they will go back to the old ways once we are through this thing. I also worked 12-16 hrs a day regularly — as did everyone else except the office leadership. They really know how to squeeze the life out of you. NY was also treated as the red headed step child to the Chicago office — even though we were in a bigger market we we looked at as a satellite office. They also have had tremendous turnover in the past year, and the Glassdoor reviews about the NY office are quite telling.
I think Golin NY has been doing a great job ensuring everyone gets time off ! Leadership cares about staff and communicates often
Agreed on the UTO. I don’t even think about versus other places I’ve worked with a set number.
Like all agencies right now in this market turnover is a challenge but management is aware and looking to make changes to maintain morale.
Can’t speak to Golin but can to unlimited time off at other agencies. They make it a bit harder to take time off for most as there’s no scarcity or ownership tied to using the set days you earned as PTO. Most agencies see a drop in PTO when they switch to unlimited. My suggestion is to pick a number of days you will claim as yours and plan to use, add 20% to it, and schedule them regularly and as far in advance as possible.
I'm biased, obviously, but I like it here at Golin NY. Lots of good people and exciting, interesting work for huge brands.
