What’s your web camera game for zoom calls these days? Do you use the one in your notebook or got better quality, external one? Just saw my son’s distance learning class where the teacher used two cameras one for face presentation and one over her desk, showing what she writes. I wonder if we all end up using more than one cameras as wfh becomes more and more new normal.

I’ve started using an external camera I already had as it’s a more flattering angle and better quality image than my laptop.

like

Laptop cam only if more than 50% of the folks on the call have theirs on. Screen share helps us a lot more than your kids teacher because our work is all on our computer- when’s the last time you had a paper deliverable? COVID or not, our work is computer based. Classrooms were not designed to transition to distance learning so most teachers (underpaid and overworked) are still adjusting which means it was likely easier to get a second camera than it is to create fillable copies of your worksheets

like

I think Covid will make laptop manufacturers install better cameras on their laptops. I have a $1300 MacBook Pro and the camera is from 10 years ago.

like

Agreed!

Well I never have to use my webcam for work calls, but I already had an external one for my desktop to have a mic, so I would use that

like

Love the second camera idea.
Hmm. Wondering why none of the smart notebooks have enabled this. Teacher writes on the tablet and it's automatically transmitted to the screen real time and recorded for later reference by students.

This exists. My spreadsheets prof used it.

I started my new job completely remotely in June and when we go back to the office, it would be a 1.2 hour, 40-mile one way commute.. Would it be entitled of me to ask to come into the office 3x/week since by the time that we return to the office, I’ve already proven that I can work efficiently from home? I feel like it’s a much more sustainable option.
