I always appreciate when someone clearly did a bit of homework—not just about the company, but about me or my path. A thoughtful question or a note that feels like it could only be sent to me (not a mass message) usually gets a reply. That said, I’ve also ignored those if the timing wasn’t right. Timing and tone matter just as much as content sometimes.
Has it ever happened to you that being the message "personalized" it stepped over the line and started being creepy?
Asking about a specific role makes me want to help WAY more than “here’s my resume, let me know when you can talk about roles in a fit for”.
Someone saying hi I am interested in XYZ, I have experience in ABC and think i would be a fit but want to talk through the details is so much better.
Knowing what you want and doing the leg work to get to know the role and company is better than saying here find something for me.
^^^especially for in house recruiting. Agency recruiting is different, your resume will go in the ATS and become searchable for future needs
Ah right, that's already telling a lot about the candidate's working style, isn't it? At least put the effort to make a case for yourself. I think candidates that know these tips and how it works have it easier and won't struggle to find a job.
