Any materials, open source platform recommended to take on freelance data science project? When should I start actively looking and applying? I am a new grad who is working in tech as a marketing analyst I’m looking to pivot to marketing& sales data science consulting next year. Would like someone with similar backgrounds offer some practical tips.

I jumped ship in less than a year from audit.
Had I known about it first, I would’ve probably chose it over audit.
Audit experience and exposure to back office business operations is invaluable. Stick it out until one year of Senior - then move on. You'll learn a lot more than you think. Teaches organization and teamwork. Expressing ideas via documentation is an essential business skill and auditing helps build those skills. Also, enables practical understanding of how data flows through systems - important for any type of modern analyst or even executive role. Will promote more quickly than in most industries and gain experience managing people in a professional services environment. Many pros, but...
I get it - tough hours in the weeds - at some point you can't just take auditing any longer - especially if you don't click with your team. I left auditing over 4 years ago doing consulting work now. Just saying you up-skill while auditing- to a certain point - then move on because you don't want to do it forever. If you stay too long you'll be either a career auditor or working in corporate accounting. If that's for you (probably not based on prior posts) - great. If not, take the exit ramp, but be smart about which one you take.
I work with data & analytics using SQL and Python daily - there are many paths post audit. If you don't think your learning - try to get a new engagement in an industry that interests you. Industry-specific knowledge will definitely help you land a cushier role.
This is really solid advice. Thank you! I think part of my problem is that I don’t enjoy the industry I’m in. Maybe I can talk to my career coaches and maybe make an industry switch 🤞🏼
I knew 6 weeks in
I left it after 2 years and moved to internal audit. It has the all the best parts of audit - exposure to senior stakeholders, coverage over lod1 and lod2(depends on the team) while having a significant better work life balance (9 to 6 if you're efficient) and much better pay.
My only regret was not joining directly as a grad as the progression would have been better.
I start at Citi this summer as an IA analyst. Looking forward to joining!
Haha. Go work for Google. Btw, tech doesn’t embrace flexibility. So yeah, pick your poison.
