The APA guidance is to start around 4-6 months, so it’s safe to start now. If your kid is excited and showing interest then start them on the earlier side. If not, the later side is fine.
It’s not all or nothing. We started my son around 5.5 months but we didn’t give him solids for every meal or even every day. If your MIL wants to deal with the mess of purées when she’s babysitting - I vote to let her. 🤣 One less mess for you to clean.
Started at 4months! My LO loved mango, green peas and watermelon very squishy things. Also did lots of purees. Found these refillable puree holders that made it way easier to make my own veggie based purees
9-10 months when they had teeth, we had twins and I was not prepared to handle the expected gagging with two at once. By 12 months they're all at the same place. :) Only sharing to say no matter what/when you choose, they all learn to eat. (As someone who kept worrying that I wasn't on the baby-led weaning trend)
6mo because my country's health service recommended this but he was ready by 5/5.5 months in terms of eagerness for food and being able to sit up etc
It still took him a while (weeks/couple months) to get the hang of it though so in hindsight it feels silly to have made a big deal out of 2 weeks. Initially they will literally have like 1-2 teaspoons of baby porridge/puree or one nibble at a baby snack. You could try handing him a bit of something baby-friendly and seeing how he goes with it - if he isn't that interested, put it off for another week or so.
We started purées at 4 months (like one feeding a day) but didn’t really ramp up solids til 6 months
Like 6.5 months? I EBF, had a small baby (now a small toddler), and wish I had started sooner, like as soon as he could sit up in his infant chair. I was overwhelmed with baby starting solids and just kept giving him my milk. May not have made a difference in his small build, but for my next baby, I will start as soon as they're able to sit up. Plus solids/more calories means baby should *ideally* sleep in longer stretches.
We started at 5 months because they promised he’d sleep through the night. He didn’t til 10 months.
Just because your MIL is a physician doesn’t mean they have a say in your decisions (unless you asked it).
They’re recommending younger now, as long as baby can hold head up in a seat etc. really up to you.
I started purees at about 5 months, but he kept getting sick at daycare so it delayed him having regular meals. He ate green beans for a few days then peas for a few days then it was weeks of nothing. Then he tried peanut butter and something else and then got sick agian. At times it was a struggle to have him just eat his bottle. He is 7 months now and eats two puree meals a day. He doesn't like puffs or other food yet, but he is growing just fine at the 90th percentile for weight and 99th for height. He has been exclusively formula fed for a while now.
6.5 months. Baby led weaning. My daughter is still obsessed with food
We started purées at around 5.5 months, only when she had full head support and could sit on her own and was showing interest in food. Our pediatrician said that we can start with baby cereal just to get her used to the texture and something else besides just milk.
Started around 4 months and just did one puree feeding per day at that time. My child wasn’t ready or interested in the baby-led weaning thing… she didn’t start showing an interest in real solid foods until after 16 months. Even after putting all different kinds of foods in front of her. Some kids just grow at different speeds and I think the guidelines from doctors should be seen as just that - guidelines and not hard/fast rules.
5.5 months is when we started slowly introducing but it wasn’t until 6 months that we were giving her meals. She loves food.
We started around 4-6 months. We were in a hurry, but baby kept trying to get his hands on our food. So we’d give him a taste. (Purées and items he couldnt bite or chew, just suck on)
WHO recommends waiting until 6 months for the internal system to be ready. I started with my daughter at 6.5 months to make sure she was able to sit steady and independently in her high chair. She is 18 months today and a great eater. We did BLW.
