I stopped around 35 weeks - a day or so before being induced (had to be induced for medical reasons).
I had a closing on my due date but gave birth a week later. As soon as that closing was done, I stopped working.
I worked from the hospital bed while waiting for the pitocin to kick in at 39 weeks 🙃 once I gave birth I didn’t open my laptop until the last week of maternity leave tho.
Omg SAME. But highly dont recommend 😝
My firm has a 2 week ramp down and I’m hoping for a 39w induction so going hard for another 7 weeks (until 37w) 🥲
Until I went into labor. Literally finished working and went into labor 2 hours later. I prefer to save my leave time for the back end when baby is there.
My 4th baby was late (only one to be late) and didn't come until 41 weeks. Would've lost so much leave by leaving early.
Understood.
2 weeks prior. Check to see if your firm has any specific disability related to pregnancy. I was able to stop 2 weeks before my scheduled c section and get on disability without it affecting my maternity leave.
Yes, they have disability leave
I took medical leave at 36 weeks, thought an additional month on leave was better than tanking my annualized hours.
This is how I feel but apparently everyone else is still going hard
31 weeks and having the same struggle already. And going into the office is torture but trying to hold out 4-5 more weeks before asking to work remote. Not sure I’ll make it.
I left at 38 weeks
I took intermittent medical leave that year because of IVF/pregnancy, still didn’t hit hours, and was planning on going out at 37 weeks and 2 days ahead of a 39 week scheduled induction. Joke was on me because I ended up getting induced at 37 weeks. Didn’t hit my hours but thoroughly documented the reasons why and was treated really well by my firm, where I’m still at.
Didn't go on maternity leave until a week before I was due. For my first kid I went out on a Friday and gave birth the next Wednesday. For my second I had a full two weeks before delivery because the lil bub wanted to bake longer and had to be induced at 41 weeks. But it's common for women in my group to go out a full 4 weeks before their due date (so, 36 weeks). I just wanted to maximize my time off after the baby was born.
Darling, what others did doesn’t matter because they are you and your body. Listen to what you need. Those of us with teenagers and older kids carved the path to enable you to do just that. If you are struggling now, get a note from your doctor (in case you need it), start ramping down now and (once Dr note is in hand) let your colleagues/partners know. Done push yourself to the absolute limit because labor and what cones after that are very tiring so preserve yourself now. You have nothing to prove, no one to please and a new life where keeping yourself sane and healthy will require drawing these lines. Do what you need to now. Sending you strength and faith in yourself and your ability to climb the mountains ahead. 😊😊
Thank you for this. Reading these comments makes me feel like a failure that I can’t push myself up until I give birth. I just know it is not possible.
Rising Star
I stopped at 36 weeks, which is presumed disability in California. Earlier on I thought I wouldn’t need to go out that early but oh wow I was humbled. Once on leave, I tried to do just one thing every day and missed that goal often.
Went strong until I was induced at 37 weeks. Albeit, I really think working like a dog until 37 weeks was WHY I ended up being induced, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend. But I had no other option unless I wanted to cut into my firm’s already-short maternity leave before baby even got here.
I had to deliver unexpectedly at 35 weeks so I was texting my boss on the way to the hospital lol. I worked from home most of my third trimester so I could take cat naps throughout the day. I had preeclampsia and gestational diabetes and that third trimester was rough for sure.
Water broke the day before my due date while I was leading a conference call. Finished the call, emailed for a bit and then called it.
Mostly because I wanted. Was more senior and felt fine- physically to keep working.
