I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve had two. After one, doctors aren’t likely to do testing because unfortunately, it is very common (I know that doesn’t make anyone feel better and hated hearing it, but from a medical standpoint it is true)
After my 2nd, my doctor was willing to run a few tests (that came back normal) but also told me that they don’t consider it recurrent until 3, and statistically, your next pregnancy is likely to be normal. I did read “It Starts with the Egg” which was very helpful in some supplements to think about. I started a bunch to improve egg health and my husband went on their recommended ones also. We are now 10 weeks ago which is the furthest we have made it, and everything looks OK so far, 🤞
One thing to note is that you should push back if someone says it’s not RPL until miscarriage 3. That used to be the recommendation but it officially changed in the early 10s . 2 miscarriages now count as RPL
I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I found it frustrating that my OB wouldn’t do any tests after one miscarriage. After two, she did a few tests that looked at the most common issues - like my thyroid. But it wasn’t until I did a full work up with an RE after my 3rd loss that I got anything resembling answers. (I am now happily 26 weeks pregnant after IVF.)
If you’re interested in stuff to read, you could try “It’s All About the Egg” by Rebecca Fett. Fair warning that it can create some anxiety! Try not to let it but I know it’s easier said than done. Teaches you about vitamins, avoiding plastic, eating organic. The philosophy is that you can increase your egg quality in just 3 months of making lifestyle improvements. If you are someone who takes comfort in taking action/control, it may help you! Or you could just get stressed about handling receipts which is how I initially felt 😆 Figured I’d share though.
Best of luck and give yourself time to grieve.
Whoops, book title is “It Starts with the Egg”
i’m sorry for your loss. have been there too. any info from your doctor as to why it may have happened? sometimes it just does, but doctors also sometimes do tests. have you had follow up bloodwork and a panel to check hormones and underlying conditions? i would also recommend you go to a reproductive endocrinologist to help you see if you need supplements or medications. sending positive thoughts
