Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

99% of recruiters are red flags themselves just by being recruiters. I would just apply on your own. You'll deal with less headaches and negotiate a higher salary.
Right. They have 1:1 and then ghost you

Green Flag (and the reason I left KPMG for my current firm): a direct recruiter from the firm itself (not a 3rd party recruiter), who knows what they're talking about (my recruiter was a former CPA and Audit Manager crazily enough)
Get recruiter recommendations from people you know who have left your firm.
Red flag: when they try and push you in a certain direction or tell you something is out of reach when you’ve seen others go in that path
Pick the person who has the job that most aligns with what you’re looking for
Be your own recruiter, there’s a couple referral bowls on here. Search the companies you’re interested in and get referrals through the bowls
Now this is a good comment Ty
An internal recruiter is good if your interested in that company. An external recruiter should be someone who at least pitches you a position that aligns with your experience. I also think it’s helpful to look at that recruiters background. Sometimes if that external recruiter was an accountant previously in their career or worked in the big 4 they might have a different approach. Won’t be as pushy/salesey.
