Plenty of mills will take you. Start shopping around to see what's out there.

Will you get trial experience at your firm? Also- what is your current comp structure? $81k base and no bonus is a lot worse than say $65k base and a really nice commission structure. All of this aside, 60 hours a week is a ton for plaintiff work unless you are on trial. I don’t think I’ve ever worked more than 40 hours a week on plaintiff side.

With a year of (hopefully) litigation experience you can make more money elsewhere in NYC. If you don’t get points aka commissions on non-originated cases I’d stay away from those firms. My first year of plaintiff work in Westchester I was at $85k base, 2% commissions on non-originated cases, and 1/3 of the fee on originated cases. As a first year I thought this was fair (also was in 2018), and it was nice getting paid on every case regardless of origination. I also got to first-chair all of the crap cases we had go to trial (no-pay cases, awful liability, big threshold issues, etc) and even though I got my ass kicked it was great experience and low pressure since there wasn’t money on the table anyway. Look for a deal like that with the promise of getting trial experience, and ideally shoot for the highest commission cut you can get; bet on yourself.
Accepting a lower salary only makes sense if you’re at a firm with a great reputation, and you’re learning a lot. If that’s not the case, you may want to exit soon. You should be earning OR learning. Sometimes it’s difficult to find a job that will satisfy both categories.
