Downgrading / upgrading has no credit impact. Only new credit inquiries will affect your credit score
I’ve never had a new credit pull when I’ve downgraded. I usually just get on the phone and ask them and they do it instantly.
Less certain about upgrading but I don’t see why they would unless you’re requesting a limit increase. Also, usually not much reason to upgrade since then you waive any sign up bonus associated with the new card
They would most likely do a soft pull. No point impact
Right but does the bank/lender run another pull when you down/upgrade? Assuming it’s still in the same “family” of cards. I would assume more likely to pull if upgrading since your credit would likely increase but was curious to others experiences in doing either.
I imagine they pull for both, I would call them and ask directly.
I’ve upgraded Chase and Amex cards (C1 - chase and Amex will both run targeted bonuses comparable to sign up bonus amounts) and have never noticed an impact to the credit score/it would seem to have only been a soft pull at most
You shouldn’t be worried about the impact for an upgrade / downgrade, it will be extremely minimal. Source: I open / close 24+ cards a year. 810 score
