Southwest hands down for non business traveler. They actually treat you like a person.
Southwest definitely has better rewards but is a pretty miserable flying experience week to week...no upgrades
Southwest has no first class... why even consider it?
Southwest has better rewards and better customer experience. They only fly to select counties so don't plan on spending your points on a flight to Europe or anything. They also don't have as many direct flights as American
Southwest, especially if it gives you most options at your local airport. If you have an SO, the "platinum" status allows one person to fly for free with you on all your flights anywhere
I flew on a AA and Delta for a year each every week and never got enough status built up to get many upgrades, plus I was flying from hubs. I switched to SWA about a month ago and I love it so far. I've already built up enough points for a few free domestic flights.
SWA's rewards earning and redemption opportunities are 1000% better than the other airlines if you're considering domestic or Caribbean leisure travel. I get around 4K points/week, and I've found one way flights from HOU > LAX for 6K points and HOU > LGA for 7K. Just think about that for a minute.
Thanks peeps! I think I'll go with SW since I have loads of United points for international travel and I travel domestically for personal reasons a lot too!
So maybe I can use my miles from work for personal travel?
Ask yourself a few queations: 1. do you primarily fly hub to hub? If so, status won't mean much on AA/United/Delta unless you are top tier elite, even then it doesn't guarantee an upgrade. 2. Do you care about domestic first class? 3. How do you want to use your rewards- domestic (SW) or international premium cabin (legacy)? 4. Are you tall? Seriously #4 is why I'm still with united, because I NEED economy plus... But I think the only benefit to the legacy carriers is if you want to travel internationally and hunt for business class rewards on partners- which have gotten significantly more expensive... I lean more and more towards SWA every weej
SW isn't as huge as AA for international travel, etc. Just choose AA.
I have done SW for the past 4 years and am quite happy with them.
Is Southwest worth it for international?
No. They only go to a few countries internationally.
