MIT for tech. Either for consulting. MIT slightly better for finance. Overall - MIT
MIT has better brand imo
With all due respect Consultant 2, but I’d like to hear that from Mckinsey 1
For everyone without an MBA, kellog is a brand of cereal
I’d take the Phone Booth over Frosted Flakes.
Mentor
MIT. But who cares. Just apply to both and see where you can get in before worrying about this.
I think it depends on geography as well as what C1 mentioned. I’d guess MIT in the northeast and west coast, Kellogg in the Midwest and South
Kellogg actually quite strong placing West
MIT has my vote. I graduated from HBS and a tech program from MIT.
Mit is probably a little better in business and better overall. This is unless you want to go to Kellogg for their niche areas in which case they would be better.
Overall MIT has better rep/street cred in general.
That being said always worth looking into costs/culture, long term goals too. Both M7 schools and not HSW so paying a premium for one over another might not be worth it.
Usually schools feed jobs closer to their proximity so another thing to keep in mind - but MIT has global recognition and more rigorous math so prepare for that fun if you go there.
If you haven't been accepted to EITHER of these programs your question isn't really valid. Do your research. Apply to both. Connect with students and alumni. THEN, if you are accepted, you can decide.
A lot depends on what you hope to do post-MBA.
Sloan doesn't care about your goals - they don't even ask during the application process.
In terms of values, culture and community these are very different programs.
There is a missing variable in your statement which is “the perception of value of each of these schools” in the market. Which is exactly the reason of my question.
Go to the program where you feel more at home.
It’s kind of the universal answer, but folks on this app seem to want to distill the question down to minutia of rankings, which are always changing, and for the most part won’t impact your career growth.
Going to a school where you resonate with the people will however impact your personal growth.
Don’t know didn’t visit either
MIT
Between those two it’s Kellogg without any doubt at all. It’s not even somewhat close. MIT isn’t even in the equation for marketing in my opinion - tech/finance/consulting school.
Ah that makes sense! In that case I would say Kellogg has a very slight edge over MIT generally. Kellogg wins for consulting. MIT wins for tech. Tie for finance is how I’d put it by industry.
Subject Expert
Kellogg imo but definitely more of a personal/cultural fit and money question
For those who know, Kellogg, especially for consulting, (except tech stuff), for those who don’t know, MIT has a national brand/prestige that comes with being MIT, but they’re both M7s you can’t go wrong. Kellogg is stronger in the Midwest and out far west
