While I support diversity internships, I think stuff like D’s Discovery and PwC Start exists for their own promotion and not actually for diversity. PoC are treated sub par when they are full time

This is true of all corporate diversity inclusion etc programs. It’s advertising, lawsuit protection first if they couldn’t end up making money or mitigating risk with it they wouldn’t do it.

I disagree, I've done PwCs and they genuinely cared about helping URMs learn how to exist in professional services. It also gave us a direct fast track to the client service internship and then eventually full time. I haven't seen the mistreatment piece but I wouldn't be completely surprised if it were true to an extent.

My favorite PwC Start experience was when the interns came to the office and spent the entire day watching Game of Thrones. Nobody trusted them to staff them on a project

I don't think Start is much different from conventional interns in that regard. We roll out the red carpet for interns of all colors (events! booze! Navy Seals in San Diego!) but once they come aboard full time they're just numbers like the rest of us
