if they are studying for the cpa and chose this route instead, sure
Not everyone is CPA eligible (or can afford to be right away) or maybe they are starting a new career? Not everyone is on the same big firm or die path, nucklehead. Let’s show some grace to folks trying to better themselves somehow.
SM1 🤣🤣🤣🤣.. and to A1: the partner I work for literally couldn’t pass a basic spelling test yet he’s the smartest person I’ve ever met, he’s also amazing to work for. Be kind, even when anonymous!
I’m an EA but studying for CPA. It’s better to be an EA than nothing at all. What? Ur just a staff accountant? Okay? Can you call IRS and represent clients? Nope. 👎
Also, bragging about being a CPA doesn’t mean much these days. We are all overworked and get paid sh** working for employers.
How am I hating? I am saying we, accountants are ALL overworked. CPA or not. We are all soo overworked. It’s no wonder people don’t want to get into this profession anymore. Everybody goes to tech now. Why would they want to be a CPA?
You’re working with an erroneous ASSumption, that everyone’s goal is to be a CPA.
As a non accountant (used to do big4 consulting) what the heck is an ea?
Enrolled Agent (EA). It’s an IRS certification for tax preparers.
EA = CPA wanna be. aka cpa poser
No
What are we even arguing about here an accomplishment is an accomplishment. I have held my real esate license ( great help when I was a Controller for Developer), also AJP with the GIA that's great for a job I'm looking at now with a jeweler etc...but I'm not, nor have I ever desired to hold, a CPA license as I work in the private sector. Maybe my CMA but I have hired many CPA firms to do work for our companies & they have their role I have mine. I do know their jobs, IRL, for audits-cost certs etc...but I don't need to pass a test the test is we got the job done.
OP, perhaps you don't truly understand the advantage of an Enrolled Agent. First, not everyone wants to become a CPA. It is what is promoted to accounting students as the gold standard for accounting professionals but there are other accounting related credentials that are just as worthy, the EA being one, the CMA. etc.. In the eyes of the IRS, an Enrolled Agent is on the same level as a CPA and tax attorney-- all have unlimited representation rights before the IRS but an EA is not restricted by state and an EA is tax focused. Additionally, its been my experience in the industry that there are CPAs that are not capable of preparing tax returns because as a CPA the focus is on auditing, etc. Having worked with some CPAs, some are also not capable of managing a team of staff accountants. So with that said, what credential do you have?
