Not everyone is CPA eligible (or can afford to be right away) or maybe they are starting a new career? Not everyone is on the same big firm or die path, nucklehead. Let’s show some grace to folks trying to better themselves somehow.

I’m an EA but studying for CPA. It’s better to be an EA than nothing at all. What? Ur just a staff accountant? Okay? Can you call IRS and represent clients? Nope. 👎
Also, bragging about being a CPA doesn’t mean much these days. We are all overworked and get paid sh** working for employers.
How am I hating? I am saying we, accountants are ALL overworked. CPA or not. We are all soo overworked. It’s no wonder people don’t want to get into this profession anymore. Everybody goes to tech now. Why would they want to be a CPA?

I worked at a CPA firm where the EA had far superior knowledge in taxation than CPAs who transferred from audit. CPA = Can’t Pass Again in many cases lol! Don’t judge people so quick.

I used to work at a small firm and they acted like EAs were the best of the best. I had never heard of EA prior to working there lol.

I needed a license to promote and I couldn’t pass the AUD portion of the exam so I banged out the EA instead and never looked back.

For tax - CPA = someone who spent too much money & time to get something that most EAs can do
If you aren’t working in audit, why bother with a CPA?
EA doesn’t need the overpriced degree with the student loans, doesn’t have to study stuff they will never use again, doesn’t have to pay for pricey review courses, and doesn‘t have to take a bunch of expensive tests over the course of a year to get it.
I would say if they aren’t going into audit, they took the smarter route.

Unpopular opinion but as someone who has both an EA and CPA, I agree
Maybe you’re right, I was thinking about the post differently. Anyone can do anything on LinkedIn. However, personally, I got the EA well before I was even eligible for the CPA. I quickly realized if I wanted to move up in the acct world, and taken seriously, I needed the CPA. Most small shops have EAs running the show.
BT promoted a bunch of EAs to Manager so there's no reason to even have the license anymore. Save yourself the time and hassle.
