YMMV but for those that can, the exit has been truly astronomical. I went into bcg as an experienced hire. Became PL w/in 1.5 years. Left after another 1.5 years for fintech. Left that for a VP in F100.
Salary jump was incredible, TC below:
C: 190
PL: 240
Fintech: 450
VP: 750
The network sets you up so well
C1, no, most PLs do not get that kind of exit
Actually a massive difference in the type of work. Work at BCG is a lot of breaking down problems, very very strategy driven, very high standards and impeccable work ethic required at all times

BCG1 - how's the Kool-Aid over there?
Had all three offers post MBA and eventually came down to the people I interacted with. Really liked the people and culture at BCG and looking back I made the right choice.
Now, 5 years in, I can also add that I have seen McK and BCG compete more on the type of work vs Bain. Bain has its niche , but I just haven’t come across them as much as during proposals.
I rarely see Bain. I chose McKinsey but I think I would have enjoyed BCG more... less arrogance and a bit more earnestness. Didn’t try to grow like a weed. Ended up leaving after a few years - but I’m also same guy who wouldn’t want to go to Harvard vs another top school or drive a Mercedes Benz versus an Audi - ‘leading brands’ tends to attract a bunch of followers and supplicants who are more about the brand than reinventing things.
BCG had one “great” idea (the matrix), Bain has some better groundings in modelling, and McKinsey is the FT’s favourite slander target second only to the Big 4 - that’s how I’ve always seen it.
But I would be interested in factual answers myself too!
McK probably cancelled their firm wide FT sub

It’s a good point actually - any McKinsey fishes around who can comment on the firms response to frequent bad PR? Is it to ignore and carry on? Are people talking about it internally?

People talk about the bad PR internally. Some scandals are more legit than others. South Africa was a bad deal that caused a lot of internal controls, including basically shuttering our office there. Partners and SPs I work with were legitimately shocked at their peers. In others, we could very much defend ourselves as what teams actually recommended has been taken wildly out of context - but selected not to due to confidentiality. And, as another poster mentioned, there are a wide range of opinions that get shared. The biggest realization I've had is that we're not a collective entity. There is no corporate. We are a consortium of highly independent, motivated, insecure overachievers who make it to Partner and SP - each with their own goals and operating model, with a figurehead at the top. More like a faction of many tribes. It's simultaneously a recipe for success and a root cause of some of the problems.
My prediction
MBB will be the Big4 of tomorrow as in the type of work will become more tactical.
Clients have become very wise about spending their money now. They don't buy this strategy BS anymore which is more of an intellectual exercise for $1M. Contingent projects will be quite common place in 5 years.
All the MBB fishes, how easy is it to move from one office to the other? Say London to New York or Asia?
Not as easy as you’d think. The office prefers you to have a legitimate reason because at BCG each office has its own P&L, so they are effectively losing you. Temporary transfer is pretty easy.
