Dang, gsb from EY? What’s your profile?

I went to grad school at Harvard (not HBS) but played a HBS club sport so went to many HBS social events. There were definitely quite a few pairings among HBS people I knew with other students that ended up becoming serious relationships but another advantage of many top business schools is that they are located in desirable cities that attract top talent. At the same time, the ambitious people in the program are free from much responsibility (no 60+ hour work weeks) so they have time and mental capacity to invest in social activities including dating that are not as easy while working. This talent pool paired with free time for the students is a significant part of why going to the right grad school is such a fun and memorable experience during which many, myself included, end up meeting their future spouses.

Be optimistic, definitely. But I kept finding myself in situations where I would meet someone and think hmmm maybe and then I get the ‘my girlfriend’ or ‘my fiancée’ bomb in the conversation. I just started feeling like a fool after awhile. Good luck to you. Perhaps it will be different

I severely underestimated how many guys were going to show up married or in serious relationships! Really shrinks the eligible guy pool way down.

like

Nothing notable at mine. Few people found anything serious, everyone ended up in different cities once it ended anyhow. Top 20 program if that means anything.

likehelpful

Yeah exactly, same here. I got to school single and left single. A few serious relationships came out of it but I was surprised at how many people were married/in serious relationships coming into school, numbers weren’t great to begin with. And the timing is tricky - you’re pretty much deciding where you’re going to be after graduation by ~fall of second year (based on timing of recruiting and job offers) so it has to be pretty serious early on if you’re going to make the decision to go to the same city after school

like

If you can’t find someone in the 4years of undergrad and 3+ years of professional life after school, why would school be any different?

Haha well played.

Regardless, I’m glad you’re not doing it primarily to find someone.

Nothing serious, but definitely casual banging

Met my fiancée at HBS. I'd say it was poor for most people, but a handful of us who knew what we were looking for.

like

only a handful of relationships (1-3) at my midsize program... probably not gonna happen in your school... maybe hanging out with people on treks (if we ever travel again)

like

All of my friends found serious relationships while we were at school except one, so it does happen

So wait....none of you poached the undergrads?!?!

Yea, ok I’ll remember that when we are 50 trying to sleep with 40 year olds; it’s an age of adulthood for a reason

Of my two roommates, one is now married and the other is engaged to people they met in b school. I can think of a few other marriages between classmates, but most of the single people just had a bunch of hookups

Question that could belong here or in the Relationships bowl:

How do women prefer to be turned down if the guy they’re pursuing is not interested. I know men have the capacity to deal with rejection poorly, and I’m not suggesting otherwise. But in my anecdotal experience , women take the gentle “no thanks, not interested” poorly.

I went on a date last week and it went really well. We basically set up 2nd & 3rd dates that night. 2nd date's Friday for drinks and 3rd date is drag brunch. Date had to end pretty early bc she's in the med field and needs to wake up around 5am. I'm new to dating people my own gender and I want to make moves but I'm nervous/hesitant since I'm new to this. There was light touching, leaning in, eye contact, but I want to do more. Anything I should do on the 2nd date? How to initiate?

28M (but look maybe 24), PA. Introvert, 5'9, eastern European/dark features. Love to talk philosophy but I can also be silly. Somewhat of a homebody but I do enjoy going out and exploring if I'm in company of friends. If I'm alone I'd rather be home and watch a psychological drama/thriller. LF someone who enjoys a balance of going out and lounging at home.

I'm 1 year out of college and recently inherited $400k and have another $120k saved up from internships and work.

I know the standard thing to do is DCA into an index fund/ETF but is there anything else I should be doing to invest my money and hedge against inflation. I'm just concerned with the political turmoil going on and trying to figure out what ETFs I should be investing in and how much I should be putting in every week.

How would you recommend investing the money?

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
