Why can't I break into legal biz dev? Post grad I moved to CA and did biz dev for startups (2 years). Post dotcom bust moved back east. Doc review off & on since then. Attempted to break out & worked as an immigration/securities attorney (EB5 1 yr) & raised private equity for small investment bank (2 yrs commission only). Attended Legal Marketing Assoc. events, contacted law school alumni, worked with recruiters. 3 interviews in 4 years. I have professional services exp and law firm experience.

Hi - As someone who worked in legal BD for over a decade and was involved in many hirings on my team, I would say that marketing degrees/certificates mean less than relevant experience and the right expectations/attitude toward the job. People hiring for non-entry level BD roles are often looking for someone who is a fast learner and can slot right in without a ton of training. Since you don't already have legal BD experience (although I recognize you have other tangential experience), I'd recommend working with your recruiters to develop a compelling cover letter/argument as to why you'd be a good fit. Secondly, if you've been seeking a manager-level position or higher, understand that those come up far less often than more junior-level positions, and often favor folks who have direct law firm BD experience. It may be worth exploring a specialist position or similar, just to get your foot in the door somewhere.

This is such a rough time to be trying to break into anything new. The job market is so rough right now. I would try reaching out to and working with a recruiter to see what roles they can help you find.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have a few that I work with. They have submitted me to many jobs. One seasoned recruiter in particular even submitted me to a job where he would receive no fee - that's how much of champion he is in my ability. And even he can't figure out why I'm not getting more interviews. I did not that it's a tough time to transition. Thank you for that information.

Hi,
I had call with the HR for he position based out of Mumbai everything in interview and they are ready to share the offer. however, I quoted for 10 lakhs and they said for fixed pay of 8.75.
Although, i checked on Google as well average pay they are giving is 9.7 lakh
So should I accept the offer as per their negotiation or shall positively tell them why 10 lakh is justified?

Recently was let go from the firm - if I start filing change of status to from h1b to b2 and later on find a new employer who is willing to sponsor, do I need to leave the country while the new h1b is in process?
