Fell into it, never really “chose” it
When I was in law school, internship at state DOR was what I could get (too dumb for biglaw and big 4 only wanted CPA track). So here I am
Me too. Fell and now too late to change
On the same boat, got put here when I started full time, and here I am. Didn’t really choose it.
No one chooses SALT. I’ve never heard a single undergrad say “I want to do SALT”
Happenstance, but I like how there’s always something new happening.
State and local was actually my favorite class in my masters program. You can visualize it versus some of the oddities about international taxation. Was a generalist for almost 15 years first (took me to SM in PA) before a becoming a dedicated SALT person in both industry and now PA as a Director
was put into it when i started but stayed because it’s pretty easy and no crazy hours at my firm. i do more with sales tax then income tax.
I think the better question to ask is “why did you stay in SALT?” lol
It just kind of fell on my lap 🤣 In school I never heard of SALT. SALT people dont even go to campus recruiting event.
