Yes, you absolutely need to tell the airline. You may need to pay a tax for the infant associated with international travel.
I'd double check, there's usually a 10% of orig. fee for infant flying international
As someone who just booked an international flight with a baby, you must get that kid a boarding pass and they must have a passport. Be a good husband and use points or pay for her to have a bulkhead seat and request when booking for a sky bassinet
Better to register the kid on the flight but I know it's not critical before hand. 1 yo won't fit well in the bassinet
You may need to provide a a legal document stating you allow the child to leave the country without you present. For some reason I believe customs requires proof when only one parent is present with a child on an international trip
^ It's to prevent kidnapping of the child by one parent. I think there have been enough cases with either the mother or father doing this, so hence the need for this policy.
I called the airlines and they said just bring along the baby and the passport on the flight day and someone on the counter will checkin the baby then
Did you request a bassinet if it's a long flight? They need to know about the baby in advance for those
Yes, there is a 10% fee for lap children. I had to pay this using a credit card on an award ticket.
One other piece of advice:
If traveling outside of the US with a lap child and your trip has some domestic legs, book the domestic portion separately from the international portion. The 10% is calculated based on the total value of the ticket. So I had to pay extra for the domestic legs.
The route was ORD->LAX->Puerto Vallarta->ORD. We were in LA for like 5 days for a family wedding. But it's also possible that the separate legs could have cost more. So do your research!
