Hi Google - I am requesting guidance!
I am prepping for my interview specifically GCA and open ended questions. I struggle to tell if the outcome should be talking through your process/steps (maybe for a question like - how would you go about determining program complexity) vs a specific solution such as create x new product, for x market by x date based on my assumptions. Is the desired outcome something I can clarify with the interviewer?

At this rate, you’d need another Enron/Arthur Andersen level scandal to get serious change in PA, and even then there’d be pushback
Tons of people get advanced degrees out side of accounting. Even if the hours requirement dropped, you’re still gonna have to study and sit for the exam. Why would we want to make it easier for people to become CPAs? It’s supposedly the last line of defense from corporate greed that we have.
I do think that college should and will look different when my kids are of that age but I don’t think lowering the bar for cpas is going to help our industry.

I agree that I don’t think lowering the bar will help. I think if salaries and work/life balance improved, we’d instead be able to justify the bar to becoming a CPA. Unfortunately, our industry is degrading the value of the CPA by shipping work offshore
It’s really sad. I’m mentoring a new graduate and everywhere she’s looking, there aren’t any entry level/staff positions available. Not at the big 4 or the regional firms. My only explanation is that they’re not getting as much business and what little they get, they outsource the prep/staff work offshore!
BDO 1: it is! Shes really discouraged
Oh my sweet sweet summer child they will eat their young before they change the billable structure
Nope! That’s a hard pass.
lol
You are delusional
I did! I’m not sure everyone who gets a bachelors is doing better than accountants.
Lowering the bar definitely won't help and could just result in more unethical practices by companies. I agree that you would need an Enron/Arthur Andersen level scandal to get serious change in PA, and even then there’d be pushback.
Outsourcing is very unfair to many students who are really interested in becoming CPA's.
