Breakup etiquette- we broke up and I was supposed to go to his relatives’s wedding in a couple of weeks. I know the couple, not super well, but have hung out and texted individually as well. Should I let them know I won’t be attending and wish them well or don’t reach out to them?

My family mistreated me when I was younger, and now that I don’t live at home, they don’t call or bother to look for me, because frankly, I think they have a hard time admitting what happened - and will never apologize to me either. If I don’t call, or occasionally go see them during the holidays, we would never talk. Some of them are growing old (health-wise), and I’m scared this entire situation is just irreparable. Do you think you and your significant other should have similar personalities? My significant other and I are doing long distance and I feel like when I FaceTime with him, I emote more and show interest by asking more questions but from his end, he doesn’t always have a reaction or just nods, and it makes me feel like he’s uninterested. Getting over heartbreak and having a full time job is torture lol. My boyfriend and I just broke up after almost a year of being together. How do you guys make friends in a new town?

Spent the pandemic working on myself, got sober, focused on working out, left the music industry and started a career where I can make money and have a steady work schedule. Maybe this isn’t everyone’s version of “growing up” but that’s what this was for me. Now that I’m vaxed and seeing my friends, it’s clear we have little left in common, and honestly a lot of the things they do straight up embarrasses me. I don’t want to lose these long term friends. Having struggled with visa for the past ~6 years, I have become extremely cynical. I don’t trust real friendships anymore because friends turned into competitors or got too burdened to maintain the friendships.
I feel somewhat disgusted when my coworkers or managers tried to “build rapport” with me.
I understand the value of doing so, but my repulsion inevitably showed through my apparent desire to end small talks as soon as possible.
