I’ve been a consultant for 15 years - when I met my wife, when we got married, when our kids were born. If the job is the right thing for you and your family, you’ll figure it out. If it’s not, change jobs. Don’t limit yourself before you find out.
Depends how tough you think MBB will be for you. Would suggest considering having the kid a year before or after your first year. If not at least make sure you take your full paternity leave and maybe even more time off (BCG lets you take additional time off unpaid with benefits, I’m assuming the others have something similar or better)
My wife and I had our daughter the second year of business school, and it was a great decision. It also helps that I have been able to optimize for local at Bain, and haven’t traveled much at all. I would not put your family on hold for a job. It will never be a perfect time, but second year of business school was pretty close.
I swear half my business school class got pregnant with due dates second half of the year
My daughter was born when I was 18months into BCG post bschool. I was able to be local for the last 4months of pregnancy. I think second year consultant is the best timing (until MDP).
Not, MBB - EY.
I've probably spent 25% on the road since our 19 mo was born. Very much enjoying my time with her these quarantine days and looking to exit for local model shop or industry.
We got married while I was in law school and I started at Deloitte when my oldest was 6 weeks old. We managed with help from my in laws and it hasn’t been too difficult. We have 3 kids now and have never had a nanny or other help other than the in laws occasionally helping out.
