Wondering if I’m Neurodivergent.
I’ve always felt different—like I process information differently. It’s been embarrassing. Some things I’m great at, like considering alternate perspectives, communication, seeing different sides, problem solving, but ANYTHING with financial accounts, banking, estate planning, official forms, etc, a wall goes up and I understand little of the detail, my eyes glaze over. Can anyone relate?

I have the exact same challenges. Once I learned that finance could be creative and fluid, I was able to get into it. I can't deal with dry, rote topics like accounting.

If it’s math, numbers, directions, look into dyscalculia. Masked and fought my entire life with numbers only to realize i have a learning disability, and in knowing it, one can then explore learning in ways that may enable them differently that before.

Executive dysfunction for me, can pair well with sensory overload. It’s too much to mentally consume or comprehend. Most content is not designed for the end user’s needs. It’s designed to cover complex content that protects them. It’s okay to have a trusted source, family or friend help look over things. We can only consume and process so much.

Here’s the thing: neurotypicals never worry they might be neurodivergent.

Same here…I thought it was just me. Btw, SP1, what do you mean by finance can be creative and fluid? How did you experience that?

Accounting is basically keeping track of things (kinda my worse nightmare).

Finance is problem-solving and decision-making. What are my options? Are there novel solutions? Can I come up with a new way to estimate probability of success?

I guess the way I see it, accounting is following rules and organizing things. Finance is infinitely complex and allows for innovative solutions.

Yep I can definitely relate and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. I have just learned that some of us are different and we learn differently and that is okay. We weren't all meant to be the same.

Any craft beer brewers here?

In the last two year I’ve gotten more and more into alcohol free beer. The selection in my country (Europe) is still small and mainly driven by the big brands (e.g. Heineken). My idea is to start my own small brewery which only produces alcohol free beer as a bit of a pendant to the booming local craft beer industry. Any thoughts on that idea or someone who has experience in the market?

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

Just restarted stimulants and already I'm dealing with twitches again. Does anyone else get these? No type of pain or anything just every once and a while my body will twitch strongly. Afterward I feel normal, but it's a bit annoying, and I can't control it at all which is a little disconcerting. Don't remember this from when I took stimulants as a kid, but it's been a while.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?

For those who were diagnosed as an adult can you provide some insight into how you were able to obtain a diagnosis. I went to my primary care dr who referred me to another dr who specialized in mental health. He asked me about 5 questions before telling me I should see a neuropsychologist for an official assessment. The referral he gave me is super pricey and apparently isn’t covered by insurance. Is that normal?

So today was my first day on a stimulant (diagnosed as an adult), and everyone says its suppose to feel like *boom* magic, or normal (?) , I guess. Knowing that is figurative, what should I actually be expecting? I feel mostly the same, I think, though I came in and actually did started my work today. But I mean, somedays I do that...I just don't want to psyche myself out if I'm expecting too much. Or pscyhe myself in if I actually might not be experiencing what I should.
