That was me last year. It’s hard but you’ll get through it. Keep searching, reaching out to people you know and look into other professions. Heard Christmas light hanging services are popular.
What did you do last year as a solution? And thank you, I will look into that.
Sounds really tough - I hope you get a solution that works for you and the family ♥️♥️
Some ideas for quick ish money:
EBay - sell what you can!
Yard sale/ car boot/ jumble sale
Leaflet dropping
Gift wrapping service for Christmas… maybe offer to help prep people’s houses for Christmas? Not sure if that is a thing
Wedding or party favour creation
Baby sitting/ child care
Uber eats/ Deliveroo etc or taxi service?
Fiverr maybe
Cake bake and/or biscuits sale
Some activities to keep the little chickens happy:
Green paper tree - home made: on the wall… print photos and hang them up of all the good times and remind the kids how fun it was for each memory
Find all their toys or old toys and wrap them in tissue paper or newspaper and put them all into a lucky dip bag - this might be less fun or attractive for older kids… the young ones will love it - guessing what it is, rediscovering it… add in some new toys or gifts from charity shop or new if you can to surprise them
Christmas films for kids recorded and cozy movie nights with hot chocolate as the treat and they get to stay up a little bit later
Lots of jigsaw puzzles or games of jenga, reading favourite books…
Maybe more specifically even like Christmas cookie baking if that’s something you’re into.
I'm thinking instacart and Uber if you can do it.
Thank you!
Check apps like Nextdoor. There is always someone needing help or offering money for some kinda service.
Thank you!
Legally or “legally”?👀
The second spelling was with “s… “legally” would suggest that it’s perhaps legal-ish… 😁
Watch Facebook Marketplace or your local FB Buy Nothing page for free Christmas trees. Ask for help with gifts TODAY on your local Buy Nothing page or locals city’s Facebook page. Be specific with what your kids would like. You can ask anonymously but you must ask today because it’s late in the season. Wishing you the best.
Don't buy into the thought that you need a Christmas tree or presents to make your kids happy, explain to them the truth and that the real meaning of life is about having your family and people you care most around you, if you can afford food and you have a roof thats enough (not the bullshit the system pushes on us to spend money and keep us trapped) a lot of people do not have kids or people around them at this time.
Same boat
I'm sorry. I hope things work out for you and your family as well.
Thumbtack and Air Tasker
Thank you!
I have been having luck with Craigslist gigs.
Thank you
Maybe we need to quit teaching our children that Christmas is about the gifts and teach them to just treasure the time they have with family. Our society really needs to get over Corporate America's version of Christmas. Feast and be merry with your family, and don't teach your kids that they should expect gifts at certain times of the year. I am wishing you and your family the best though.
You can also try the app called "Cleo", it does cash advances
Just make Christmas on a different day. I was in a situation like that years ago. So I spent Christmas Day watching movies with my kids and one day in the middle of January they came home to a fully decked out winter wonderland and spent the entire weekend opening gifts. I even turned it into a scavenger hunt I picked separate wrapping paper for each of them so they knew which ones they could open and which ones to leave hiding.
The stress around Christmas often comes from societal pressures and expectations I mean commercialization and media portrayals of the perfect holiday makes people feel like they need to spend a lot of money to create memorable experiences and then there's also this emotional desire to make loved ones happy and the tradition of gift-giving that leads to financial strain if money is tight.
I don't know why we do this to ourselves it's important to remember that the true Spirit of Christmas isn't about expensive gifts or lavish celebrations it's about spending time with loved ones sharing joy and creating meaningful memories.
celebrating on a different day isn't illegal and can be just a special. It's ok to focus on simple pleasures and if that means embracing homemade or heartfelt gifts so be it. The magic of Christmas isnt tied to a specific date on the calendar it's all about the love joy and togetherness you share with your family. you can create your own traditions make it a unique and memorable experience for your kids the most important thing is that you're together
You can also have kids pack up stuff they don't play with and if in good condition take the kids and donate them to an orphanage (the toys not the kids) or a children's hospital. Find places that give cash for old clothes like Other Mothers or something like that. You can see if there are any Amazon Bin stores for discounted gifts. If they are still really young, it's not too late to create new traditions that are better for the wallet. Now and in the future.
