Hey folks, I'm getting an offer as a SC in EY UK. Presently I'm a manager with EY India (up for SM next yr Oct 2021). Comp is 55k range (haven't officially received the figure, a few more days it's expected, doing some homework before that).

I'll be moving with family. Wife may not immediately start working (,find a new job, we have a toddler daughter as well 2 YO).

I personally don't find this offer commercially attractive. Can someone offer some counter arguments?

Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.

27 F. Work as 1st year associate in Big Law NYC. Base salary $215k, bonus is ~$10k (lowballing), student loans are $150k, total savings are about $100k. 0 family money and will likely be supporting parents long term. Is it common to negotiate software engineer salary at smaller companies? I know it’s common at FAANG, but what about for companies with around 200 engineers?
