Working late and getting the job done is the lifeblood of an agency. If I got a comp day for every time I stayed late or worked weekends in a year I’d actually be able to spend time with my family and my friends. Working late and missing important events is a luxury experience. Keep not being there when your kids need you. Get GOOD at missing anniversaries. And... It can help sink your life. Get you divorced. Help you lose family and friends. Forget that gathering you missed or that birthday party you forgot about because you were so busy. Just ask to work more. Ask for excuses to give your loved ones, and yourself, for missing your life. Learn how to lie to your family and friends well. Get home late again. Stay at the office later. You’ll miss the chance to actually live your life in bigger ways than you ever imagined. Happened to me. Please don’t go for it!!!
I feel like @McCann1 has Stockholm syndrome. 🤔
A pitch is the lifeblood of an agency. If I got a comp day for every pitch I did in a year I’d get 2 months off. Pitching is a luxury experience. Keep doing it. Get GOOD at it. And....It can help catapult your career. Get you promoted. Help you earn the big money. Forget 2 days of comp. Just ask to pitch again. Ask for feedback. Learn how to pitch well. Pitch again. And again. You’ll benefit in bigger ways than you ever imagined. Worked for me. Go for it!!!!
I work in new business and I’m telling you to ask for and then take the comp days. There is more to life than advertising and everyone deserves to experience it
In my experience, it’s never been a 1:1 deal. Crazy pitch week + work all weekend = 1 comp day, if you’re able to take it. Never hurts to ask though! All they can do is say no.
True! Good perspective. I AM good. They keep putting me on these and I’ve gotten lots of praise from the president. Time for a promotion when we win these!!
You can ask for whatever you want.
No.
Do it.
Nope
All you can do is ask.
Yes
I say do both. I LOVE working on pitches and I’m good at it, but I also ask for comp time after a pitch to recoup the extra hours when working on one. It may not be 1:1, but I take what I need and management is fine with that
I usually just take the day then don't put it as a vacay day in timesheets. Seems to work out.
Duh
