Would you apply to a job where the posting says it is fully on site but you would only take the job if it were hybrid (2-3 days in office)? I don't think I should apply but it is an otherwise a good fit, and I often there are posts here that say in office requirements are not strictly enforced for legal teams.

Its worth a go and up to you if you want to use your time that way. Employers sure don't mind taking your time to interview and then turning you down for any reason they come up with, and I encourage that interviewees have the same opportunity.

Don’t hurt to apply. If you get an interview or screener you can get more of a temperature check on in-office requirements.

like

Ugh *doesn’t. Wrote this at 2am when barely awake.

If it says on-site, chances are the screener will confirm that you live locally and are able to come on-site every day. At that point you can be honest and say you can’t or ask about flexibility, but the screener will probably say there’s no flexibility. Or you can keep going in the interview process and take the chance that you can negotiate hybrid later (personally I would not find it worth it to go through the whole interview process). Finally you can take the job at 5 days in office but based on the culture and what you see, gradually/eventually just be more flexible about the time you are there if you see people don’t care. Also a risk.

I think it's worth applying and understanding what their in-office requirements actually look like. But IME, Legal is not carved out from any attendance requirement, especially for large orgs.

i did this, told them i wasnt gonna take an offer without a hybrid work environment and got exactly whst i wanted

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Considering a move in-house to NBC Universal in any litigation role (though I’d really go to wherever there is a need, whether litigation or business affairs generally). Coming from 4th year law firm litigation experience in a variety of areas but mostly data breach, e-discovery, breach of K. Do I apply with an employee referral or via LinkedIn recruiter that reached out? Alternatively, if anyone has experience applying/at NBCU, I’d so appreciate general advice :) TIA.

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.
