No. Go be a L65 at Microsoft, work 30 hours a week and get paid $350k
How real is the annual stock grants? $65k per YEAR??
Anything above 55-60 can go screw itself unless it has 7 figures in it for me.
I love this response.
Coach
90 on a consistent basis is actually cutting years off your life through stress and lack of sleep. Not worth it unless it's something you could turn into something bigger in a couple years. Also depends on personal situation, if you want to have a healthy relationship and kids def no
Coach
^ agreed. Unless your partner understands (and even better, has) a ruthlessly demanding job, you will be terrible to be around and s/he will lose patience for it
I would look for a 350k job that has you working 55 hours a week.

OW1: got stuck on back to back diligences this year plus a bunch of firm initiatives which crushed my year. Hoping next year I can stay 50-60. At KPMG
Invest that 15-35 hrs on yourself. You are 30, I don’t know you but for me, I prioritize my health over everything now.
Go do some sports, develop a hobby. 110k is pocket change when you calculate the true worth of investing1750 hours (50 weeks) on yourself
This was a very helpful way of looking at it. Not sure why I didn’t take this lense and compare the incremental cash flow to the extra hours. Should have been second nature..
No. 55 is still too high. Feel like by 30, we could find a $220k gig for 45 hr / weeks in major cities
I feel you. They’re not super easy to get roles (like someone else here mentioned Google). Outside of big tech, the industry offers that are like that are groups led by ex mbb / t2 folks
No, because that money won't mean jack if you die in the process!! 🤷♂️
No way. If 70-90hr, likely to be consistently at the 90hr mark. My health and life are too precious for that sacrifice
If it's MBB and you can use this to catapult to a well paying less hour position in one year than maybe. You can also soft quit like 7 months in and start interviewing, say you have a baby on the way and need to cut down your hours.
Yeah so it seems you've made your mind up, happiness is found within and comparison is the thief of joy. Social media and this constant "million dollar lit lifestyle" is robbing people of the enjoyment of their time and what they have because they always wanna flex the next thing on some website to randoms who don't really care about them.
I deleted most of my socials and have found it honestly relieving, no more competing or showing off just living my own life day to day and enjoying what I have in front of me without comparing it to with what someone on SC has who I barely know.

70 hours yes. 90 hours no way in hell.
If you haven’t pulled a 90 hour week, they are BAD. I can’t imagine how bankers feel pulling them consecutively. The money is earned at the jr levels.
Coach
Was going to say this as well. Every 10 hours after 60 is exponentially more painful.
70-90 in your thirties hits different than when you’re 22-26. Your body reacts lack of sleep and high stress in far more noticeable ways. You also tend to have significantly higher external responsibilities (aunt/uncle, quality time with aging parents, friends engagements/weddings,pets, serious relationship, house to take care of, team to manage etc).
It’s easier to do at 23 because you don’t have many of those other things so it’s easier to put your head down and grind without letting others down as frequently.
Tell me you’re doing on-cycle without telling me you’re doing on-cycle
^private equity recruiting
Just signed a 40-45 hr, $260k industry role with a great team & work culture. So much preferred than making more in alternative soulless environment
Please share the role!!
My dad died before retirement age working those hours. Not worth it. Rather him be around to see his grandkids than stressing about work.
It was mostly during his younger years that burnt him out. Slowed down to more reasonable hours when he got older (40-50) but working those hours definitely shortened his lifespan since he was otherwise healthy (my grandpa is 90+ so def not genetics)

No lol get a high paid 30 hour or less job in tech. When I was making 250-300 I was working 20-30hrs a week. There are many opportunities that pay more than that with similar hours so you can have both WLB and good quality of life when off work
Mentor
There are a lot of Product managers with MBAs at tech companies and they make half a mil or so at a lot of places. SWE doesn’t even necessarily need a degree like I had some friends who didn’t go to college who were making $250-300k a year at 25 working under 40hrs a week at Amazon and similar places while living in LCOL places
Absolutely not.
Just did an 85 billable hours week and had 0 personal time. Any time awoken I was exhausted from a 3/4 hour night sleep.
I m in Rx so I could easily go to banking and get paid 2-3x my current salary but I won’t.
I have enough money to live comfortably. Money comes and goes. Time, friends and family once they re gone, it’s for good
Mentor
Absolutely not. I had a high stress, 70-100+ hour 1.5 year engagement while making $75k in my mid 20s, there's no amount of money that would get me to go back to that kind of schedule.
Yes . Do it for 3-4 years and you’ll be making 500 next or in 3-5 years you’re still under 300K
Coach
Is it truly 70 to 90? 350k isn't enough for that (poor hourly rate) and unsustainable at age 30+
So you'd either need a quick off-ramp or be able to pull it off in fewer hours (speed/skill, experience, time mgmt.)
Coach
Fair enough, before joining AP I was told to expect 50 min, 60 sometimes 70 max hrs per week which is not what I wanted to do.
With luck I've clocked 40-45 every week (some mix of speed/skill/experience/ time mgmt) and was wondering if the same could apply for you.
For similar reasons I declined an MBB job as those seem the most intense
70-90 is too much!!
60 tops ONLY during peak cycles or if it’s a job I GENUINELY enjoy - which isn’t anything related to corporate BS
