What are your thoughts on the Scrum Master role? I’ve worked with a few now and out of 5 of them, only 1 seemed to be of any help. Most of the time we have to explain every detail multiple times and they still don’t understand what we’re doing. I feel that the role should be reserved for employees with experience in the systems they work in.

I have an offer from a start-up which I will be joining next week. Even though I got a hike more than 100% ( current tc: 6lpa, new tc:14lpa) and changed to sde role I am still not satisfied. Seeing all those comp posts on leetcode I felt I can be one of them. But now I am feeling left behind and not able to move on. I know I have no dev experience. But every other person is getting tc more than 25. How can I get rid of this FOMO and focus on learning and growth. Drop your advice in comments sec.

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.

Recently got rejected for a job at Lyft after final round but the hiring manager just emailed me out of the blue to say I should apply for a different job. Is this common? What does it mean?

VC / PE / MMB comp and trajectory comparisons? Is it better to stay in MMB until later in your career then switch to PE/VC or better to make the move earlier.

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!

Has anyone used exit opportunities to get early promotions within consulting? For example if I’m 1 year away from promotion at D, could I apply for a role that’s a level up at another firm? Is this something that’s doable and happens often? How does one pull this off? Will you be forced to stay in that next level for longer at your new firm?

I believe in the philosophy of learning from other's experiences, success stories, mistakes and regrets while keeping in mind that similar set of life events may unfold into totally different ways/outcomes for others as there are always too many variables in the equation called LIFE. People may arrive at different destinations at different times while being on the almost similar path.

That being said-

If given a chance to RELIVE your life again, what would you do differently and why?

Currently making $260k base HCOL area. Moved from Big 4 to medium sized firm. Previously at $160k. Should I expect a reduction in base if I want to move to industry? 10 years of exp.

Seems like consulting is becoming less and less of an attractive field to be in, and people are leaving the industry in droves. Is this because of the pandemic? What gives?

I’d like to eventually switch to a product management role, preferably at a big tech company. Would it be better to align myself into EY’s digital or strategy practice?

I work on a consulting team at a large software company. I’m a job hopper, around 2 years each at my first and second jobs and a little over a year at this job. I recently found out they’re shutting my team down. We’re not fired, but they’re transferring us to the core implementation team, which has a horrible reputation for malignancy, overworking, and isn’t at all what I was hired to do. How hard is it going to be to for me to find a new job? Should I just stay and try things out? What next?

Any advice on landing a strat & ops role in a tech firm? The JD is my dream role, but these opportunities are few and far between, and yet I keep getting rejections even at the CV stage. Currently in a DD shop, so could be a fit issue (but I can’t pivot…)
