I’m a Canadian lawyer at an Aml50 firm in the US on a TN visa. I would like to take steps to change over to an immigrant visa (H1-B). Has anyone done this? If so, how did you bring up the conversation? How long were you employed before asking for this? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Just interviewed with a firm and it seems great. I was told that although associates are given an annual billing requirement, the firm focuses more on your “receipts” rather than hours billed. I understood that to mean that the firm is more focused on whether or not your client pays your invoice. Has anyone worked for a firm like this?

Anyone transition from big law to midsize as a mid-level and realize you actually know less than your colleagues? I’ve done more substantive real work at the midsize than I did at my last 4 years in big law…I’m shook and don’t feel knowledge is up to par with my class year. FWIW I do commercial real estate/corporate finance
Which books would you recommend to a product counel for tech startup about strategy, management, and leadership?
Did anyone only start using their middle initial when they became an attorney? I have no idea where I got the notion but I felt like it was too formal at all my jobs before I went to law school but totally appropriate once I was licensed. Is this a custom?
I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?
Does anyone have any creative ideas on what my company can do for May Mental Health month?
How long do you typically allow for self assessments and manager assessments for year-end? This year we gave employees a week and managers 3 weeks (holidays not included), but they still said it wasn’t long enough even though most waited until the very last day to complete them.
When a partner sends back your doc with tracked changes, should I do anything more than accept changes and proofread again? Seems like I am constantly just volleying minor changes back to them.

What’s the best way to lead a call you setup for introducing yourself to leadership, with no specific agenda other than increasing your visibility? Looking for potential conversion starters and maybe even relevant things to touch on to truly learn about each other. Appreciate the insights!
What’s everyone’s take on unlimited PTO? Our agency is moving to this but I actually hate the concept/benefit. No one takes time off as it is and I think it allows for overworking and passive aggressive judgement.
This is great. My base salary went up about 13k but my biweekly paycheck take home pay increased by 40 dollars.
I am enjoying work from home so much. Made me realize the routine / predictability of audit adds to my WLB since I know what to expect (although we get occasional surprises). Also I don’t have to be in uncomfortable audit room in uncomfortable suits all day... so now I’m wondering: is it possible that this remote audit becomes a permanent thing? / industry standard?
How long do you like to chat on a dating app before suggesting to meet up? I’m female. Looking to date and not randomly hook up... wondering about other people’s perspectives. I don’t like waiting crazy long or anything but sometimes I feel out of my comfort zone when it just feels way too quick and we’ve only exchanged a couple casual messages.

Noob question: my apartment said it will cover heat and hot water, does this mean my bills are wifi, electricity, gas and water? Or is cold water included?
Hello. I’m working on H1B and recently got a promotion. My company is amending my H1B and told me that since my new job is remote I can only work at my apartment (since it’s my legal location). Is there any chance they can figure out I’m working remotely from somewhere else? Also, I’m also in the process of applying for green card (thru employment). Does anyone know the timeline for this given my H1B is getting amended ? (My country has no waiting time).
Anybody here has been in a situation where they’ve been in a job/role that isn’t the right role but have had to stick around due to the visa situation? How long did you folks stay in that role? Is it worth leaving a role and restarting the visa/GC process or would you recommend sticking it out
