I’m a Canadian lawyer at an Aml50 firm in the US on a TN visa. I would like to take steps to change over to an immigrant visa (H1-B). Has anyone done this? If so, how did you bring up the conversation? How long were you employed before asking for this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just interviewed with a firm and it seems great. I was told that although associates are given an annual billing requirement, the firm focuses more on your “receipts” rather than hours billed. I understood that to mean that the firm is more focused on whether or not your client pays your invoice. Has anyone worked for a firm like this?

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?

How long do you typically allow for self assessments and manager assessments for year-end? This year we gave employees a week and managers 3 weeks (holidays not included), but they still said it wasn’t long enough even though most waited until the very last day to complete them.

I am enjoying work from home so much. Made me realize the routine / predictability of audit adds to my WLB since I know what to expect (although we get occasional surprises). Hello. I’m working on H1B and recently got a promotion. My company is amending my H1B and told me that since my new job is remote I can only work at my apartment (since it’s my legal location). Does anyone know the timeline for this given my H1B is getting amended ? (My country has no waiting time).
