So, we had a new female employee start in Accounting this week and this morning she was inquiring about Maternity Leave because she is a little over three months pregnant. Her boss is livid claiming she lied to us by not disclosing she was pregnant during the interview process. I tried explaining to the manager about the legality of the situation when he blurted out that he wouldn’t have hired her if he had known she was expecting… he said this loud enough that the employee in question and the rest of the department overheard… so anyway I’m looking forward to spending my weekend preparing for the litigation that is sure to come.

This may be just a naive/dumb question, but how do you relax when you’ve got a really stressful file? I’m a junior and I’ve been putting in ~10ish billable hours a day recently, which is more than I’m used to. The evenings (post-8pm) are generally my time to decompress - read a book, watch dumb tv, whatever - but it’s been all work lately until 10 or 11pm and I struggle to go straight from work to bed. Any insight on what everyone else does?

I’d like to be prepared for the initial phone screen convo, which will only last 20-30 minutes. The JD shows the salary range as 110-130(USD) commensurate with experience, but I’m happy to land anywhere in that range—yet I don’t think it’s good to disclose that. How can I tactfully still talk to the recruiter about landing closer to 130? Not trying to be greedy, but certainly aiming high!

Sorry for the tax Q’s but other bowls aren’t responsive and it’s somewhat related:

Say I am due to owe $50k in capital gains in 2021. What’s to stop me from going out and buying a $50k car and renting it out on Turo for $1,500 per month. I then use bonus depreciation to write off the full expense of the car in year 1, negating the $50k in capital gains owed.

Voila, free Tesla, and the ability to make $1.5k per month. What am I missing?

Two companies…I won’t reveal the name now so please understand and help.

Company 1 gave me good ctc (12LPA) when no one was giving considering my cctc (3.2 LPA) my expectation was 10 they gave me 12 fix. ( I was holding Infy offer of 7 LPA). The HR was really nice and so every process.

Now the Company 2 is giving 14 LPA and its in my hometown.

The Company 1 uses legacy tech (no cloud and containers) whereas Company 2 uses trending tech like cloud and containers.

What should I do?
