How do you deal with imposter syndrome, especially for fresh attorneys? Please share your experience! https://joinfishbowl.com/post_ih8nv
Should I expect a promotion to essentially be in writing? This entire "promotion" seems to be theoretic over the last 6 months. I was about to quit yesterday and now the position I didn't think I was going to get is starting to come around;timing couldn't be crazier. Should I give them an ultimatum? I just received an insane offer but I want to stay.
Need to define diverse talent metrics to create a scorecard. Challenge is that the available data is based on opting in/out of self identification, that data point can change dramatically YOY. Any recommendations on metrics and scorecard?
I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.
I love my job as an Asst. State’s Attorney and thought the pandemic would be relaxing, but it’s only overwhelmed my mid-sized office. The micromanaging, juggling multiple dockets, etc. and resolutions of nearly no cases..making a move to big firm is looking more attractive. Is it just me?
Has anyone seen or discussed this Petition for SHRM must support Black Lives Matter & the LGBTQ community? I’ve grown increasingly concerned and disappointed in SHRM’s lack of vocal support for employment protections for LGBTQ+ and black and brown workers, especially as a black woman in HR. It seems like SHRM is overly focused on what is absolutely “legal” and not what is right. I’m of the opinion HR professionals must not only be “legal” but have a relevant and compassionate stance
Has anyone made the jump from insurance defense to working for the government (i.e. state attorney’s office)? It’s something I really want to do in the next couple years. Any tips/advice on the transition and taking a pay cut?
I’m not happy where I’m at, my abilities aren’t being maximized as I’m spread thin, and I know I’m being undervalued. Recently graduated and in property management w/ 3-4 years sales experience. Currently on the hunt for Sales/Account Management roles leaning more towards consumer goods, then tech. Any advice?
Just got finished with two huge projects I had to turnover in a very tight timeframe. One of them barely had any revisions and the other got clobbered with redlines. Clearly the latter was the one I was working on at 2am. This is my very first assignment as a first year at big law and I wanted to make a good first impression. I feel like I squandered that opportunity.😣
Monday morning and the only thing that goes through my mind is wow I hate my job. Between the strict requirement of releasing billing time daily, high billable goal and I guess a heavy workload (and everything that comes with living through a pandemic) it’s hard to start my day excited for work. And I hate it. Makes me question why I’m doing this for a living.
My firm offered to pay me 1/3 of my collected billables on a draw that is squared up at the end of year. For context, I’m a 5th year associate at a mid size firm in the NYC area. My collected billables last year were 457% of my compensation. Any thoughts or advice?
I recently started at a larger software company as an AE. As I’m getting more into the process, I’m finding things odd. Like, cold calls and emails are metrics I’m judged on more than closed won business. I know that’s part of the job but it seems strange I’m judged on it so heavily. And, I seem to be the first real outside AE hire as everyone else seems to have been promoted up from SDR roles, including all of my direct management. I’m questioning if I made the right move. Stick it out or look?
We had a blizzard that shut the city down (close to 50 cm of snow) and I’ve been physically unable to leave my apartment, and I’m going stir crazy. I’m in Canada and covid cases have been low, so we’ve been back in the office a bit, but now they’re up and I’m worried about what the winter will bring. At least before I could sit outside or go for a walk, but not being able to leave is not going well - I worked from my bed today which I know is bad but couldn’t even get to my desk. Any advice?
How long, on average, did it take you to study before you could pass the PHR/SPHR exam? Did you think it was worth it?
I would like to help those wanting to shift careers in HR, minorities, or women going back to the workforce, learn workday coding and ultimately help them get a job in the space. Is there any interest?
Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)
Hi there! I need some guidance. HR and global leadership rolled out some amazing new initiatives like not starting until 10 am on Mondays, no meeting Fridays and required 2 additional summer days a month. The problem is, my boss refuses to comply with the initiatives. He constantly scheduled meetings before 8 am on Mondays and after 7 pm on Fridays. He also doesn’t let me take time off. Should I go to HR? I’m really not one to complain but I’m tired and extremely burnt out. Thanks for your help!
Are there generally more PMM roles at tech companies than strategy roles? What about specifically for MBA recruiting?
Open to client-appropriate Halloween costume suggestions: Context: team told to dress up in throwback gear (70s/80s/90s) for Halloween Complication: new to firm, client, and Halloween (at work)
Haven’t updated my resume since college (internship opps). Now a rising senior in October & not quite sure how to properly update resume... thinking of new exit opps, but have a lot of impostor syndrome... so how do I lift myself in resumes?

Any tips for negotiating salary in big law as a third year associate? Given COVID, I want to make sure I’m sensitive to the financial situation of the firm but I also want to advocate for myself. Is it appropriate to ask for a signing bonus?
@Long-time creative freelancers, please enlighten the masses about why you might make a better staff hire than say, someone with nearly all staff role experience. Help clear up this weird prejudice.
Any tips on finding a cheap PC? I want to get my mom a new laptop. She’s a substitute teacher and doesn’t make a lot of money, her current laptop is total crap. She’s teaching virtually so just need a PC that can handle zoom/teams and her constant Facebook usage. Any tips on where I should look? I’m not flushed with cash myself. Appreciate any advice!
Opportunity to pivot from Insurance Defense PI to Plaintiffs-side PI for almost 30k salary bump. If you generally like the people you currently work with would you do it? Obviously no billable hours doing Plaintiffs PI but I cant imagine their work day being any less stressful or the performance demand any less than on the defense side, especially if they are offering more money. Money is def a consideration for the move.
STL to LGA every Thursday. Not sure which I love more. The flight delays or the sloth pace people walk at in the Midwest.....
I started my first real non-internship job and got partnered with a senior writer. I’m having a lot of trouble concepting with them since i start to feel really intimidated and like they’re more like a CD than a partner. Any thoughts on how to get over this?
Just had my comp call and I feel I'm making much less than my peers. I've always been rated a 4/5. Advanced degree (non mba), National Advisory, NYC, PI-Analytics, Sr 3. How much should I be making?
Just got an offer from a large pharma in Boston to be a Manager of Cloud Engineering. Currently a Senior 2 in EY Tech Consulting in Denver at $120k but hoping to make manager next summer. Comp for the new role would be $155k base, $60k in stock over three years, 20-30% target bonus. Thoughts?

Hey NYC! Here for the summer and hoping to intern at an agency for the summer. I know it’s a long shot, as I’m only a semester into my university’s ad program, but any if you know anyone in need lmk!

If I can afford it, should I be maxing out my contributions to my Roth and 401k? So 5500 to Roth each year and 18,000 (18.5k for 2018) to 401?
For people who have made the transition from T2 to MBB post MBA was it worth it? Was it a waste of time? What did you learn from Mbb that you didn’t at T2?
Just saw this new...need to assess how it could affect https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-07-31/u-s-labor-immigration-agencies-team-up-on-h-1b-enforcement
