To those who have several years of experience ion TA: Do you think staying in the campus recruiting space limits you? Should one try to get exposure to other HR areas for the long run?
How soon is too soon to be preparing for a lateral move? I did my 1L summer internship in a niche area of securities law, loved it, took courses on it. I decided I wanted to explore securities law a little more broadly and not to pigeonhole myself. The firm I’m at is great—doing sec lit—but has zero work in that niche area that I liked. I’m afraid that I am passing on a passion, and I don’t want to get too “old” for a firm to take me on if I have zero experience in a specialty area. Advice? Thx
How long, on average, did it take you to study before you could pass the PHR/SPHR exam? Did you think it was worth it?
I’m not happy where I’m at, my abilities aren’t being maximized as I’m spread thin, and I know I’m being undervalued. Recently graduated and in property management w/ 3-4 years sales experience. Currently on the hunt for Sales/Account Management roles leaning more towards consumer goods, then tech. Any advice?
How often do you respond to emails from law students who want to learn about your firm/practice area? I get like a dozen requests right around OCI every year. Frankly I’m tired of speaking to them and answering the same boring questions, especially if I know they have a low GPA and no chance of summering at my firm, but I do feel bad saying no/ignoring them
What’s the most petty thing you’ve seen a firm do to an attorney who is lateraling out? Mine just revoked my renewal paperwork and payment for 2021-22 bar dues, even though they’ve already submitted it I’ll still be an employee when they’re due (7/1). Money’s not the issue. They can dock the $400 from my final check for all I care. The administrative hassle is the petty part, and it’s so inconsequential that it genuinely made me chuckle. I don’t even blame them. Kinda respect the hustle tbh.
If you are at a big law firm that is not increasing pay according to market this year, should you look elsewhere? Is that a bad sign?

What’s the more persuasive federal authority? 1. District Court opinion in the same state but different district, or 2. Circuit Court opinion from a different circuit.
Hello, curious to know what other companies do for employee spotlights besides the traditional email blast to the company. Any recommendations to better the experience for employees?
When a law firm is looking for a 33/34 act attorney does it need an one working primarily with public companies? Or private companies as well? I’m a corporate and securities attorney, all my clients are private EGC and PE/ VC/ hedge funds, I usually ensure that they are exempted from 33/34 acts
Why do lawyers love saying “and the like”
Are you folks happy with your decision to make a career in sales? I’m young working in tech sales, but also have my bachelors in psychology, and could see my self happily going for my masters maybe even PHD and being a counselor.
Need to define diverse talent metrics to create a scorecard. Challenge is that the available data is based on opting in/out of self identification, that data point can change dramatically YOY. Any recommendations on metrics and scorecard?
Solo who started pre-pandemic and as a result never transitioned into a traditional office setting. I enjoy work from home and it keeps overhead obviously low. I can afford to move into an office now (and planned to do so last spring before the shutdown). I find myself hesitating to make the leap. I’ve found most clients prefer zoom consultations or house calls. I practice in PI and cannabis. Curious to hear others’ thoughts on the necessity of a brick and mortar post pandemic. Thanks.
For those in b2b sales how are your orders placed most? Online, customer service or sales reps?
AlixPartners folks - Anyone in the Enterpise Improvement group willing to chat? Applied for a VP position and am looking to continue learning more about the group / typical background required. Thx!
Shall I disclose reason for leaving a firm during my initial call with a recruiter from said firm, if I was laid off? Are they privy to that information. Ironically being recruited by that same firm
Was offered a Strategy Consultant role with Accenture (progression point C) for $150k. Asked what the sign-on bonus would be and was told $20k. Is this fair comp? Should I negotiate? I tried to negotiate salary but was told it is fixed. I haven't tried to negotiate sign-on yet, but also feel like it's fair and don't want to lose the offer. What would you do? Background: Program director for a nonprofit for the past 5-7 years. Double masters in education (no mba).
115k ops role at Deloitte in MCOL city or 100k strat & M&A at LEK in NYC. Extremely interested in strat & M&A exits and the work at LEK but the salary seems extremely painful in NYC
I have tried searching, but can’t find anything. I only see senior and up. So what is a good salary for FDD in ATL as an experienced associate transferring from another big 4?
I put in my two weeks and someone from HR is now asking for my new role and salary information. Has anyone else been asked this upon leaving? Seems like an odd question that isn’t really my now former employer’s business.
Bain local model: how does it work? Can you stay in Boston, for example, and focus on healthcare clients? How about the need for travel as you advance to Partner level?
Loving this context from Ron Klain! There honestly needs to be an independent team/body whose sole role is fact checking all politicians on social networks.
Looking for tickets to India in December and return in Feb ...tickets are super expensive...where should I look for better deal Can I use Swiss air or British airways if my Visa is expired from 3 year
What do you do if you work with someone and cannot stand the sound of their voice? This woman I work with has such a whiny voice and she talks slow and choppy at the same time. It makes me want to pull out my hair and gives me a headache by the end of the day. How do you deal with this kind of annoyance in the workplace?
What would you do in this scenario? Been working with a recruiter for a lateral to a big law firm. Went through three rounds of interviews, lateral questionnaire and conflict check. Then, recruiter indicates good news (offer) is coming by email soon. She also indicated they are calling references. She gets good feedback and then, indicated they want a partner rec. Sadly, most of the firms I left were pissed when I quit because they took it personally. Not unusual since they were boutique firms..
Interviewing with accenture. Any significant differences with culture and work? Coming in at consultant level at charlotte if i get the offer. Fraud and risk group
I am thinking of leaving government and moving to a matrimonial law firm. I had my first child in January and my husband’s job, which is 100% commission based, was hit hard due to covid (I was already the higher earner). The money is enticing, and I did matrimonial law for a couple of years in a neighboring state, over 5 years ago now. I’m really torn. I’ve been unhappy with a lot of aspects of my job as of late anyway, but I’m also nervous about billables and the change generally. Advice?
Are cover letters important if they don’t ask for one? There are so many job postings and applicants I can’t tell if they would be beneficial to show effort or just a waste of time to write with how little time I assume people are looking at applications with the mass hiring going on. If I should be writing one, any advice how to format?
Anyone going to europe for july 4th weekend? How are you going about getting the covid test in europe (to show when coming back to US)?
