I’m 67 yo- practiced solo since ‘94 and in a small local office since 2016 with cheap cheap rent. Primarily remote from home for last 2 yrs. Hubby retired this year and my work schedule totally changed with us having breakfast and other stuff until noon. In fact, my enthusiasm to work has petered out. Also office/insurance costs eat up most if not all income. Trying to figure out about how long to do this semi-retirement. Anyone else been in this situation? Kind of hard to say I’m done.

I have a rough time at work for some reason I can perform really well for short periods of time but as soon as I know I'm doing okay I get lazy again, I feel like my life is just never going to be complete and it's going to be as empty as it is now forever. I don't want to lose my job but honestly it's hard to see the point in going forward beyond not being on the street. No essential vitality animates me I just learned forward like some sort of unwieldy machine.

Applied for a position in X practice area at [big firm name] through a referral. They hired a different candidate. Is it weird to apply to Y practice area (general lit, while X was a little more niche) at the same firm within the span of a few months?

I'm getting really burnt out with the billing requirements at my Work Comp Insurance Defense firm.

We are required to bill 60 hours per week. I am curious what the billing requirement at other defense firms is and if this seems about normal or if it is high/low compared to other places.

I'm thinking about looking for other opportunities that are less demanding and allow for better work-life balance.

The owners of our company like to do a holiday handout at Thanksgiving each year. They used to do a whole Thanksgiving meal (turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pie). Last year there was a lack of available turkeys in the quantity we needed, so we switched it up and did a bottle of sparkling cider with a $25 gift card. This year the owners want to do something different but they are not sure what. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have about 300 employees in one location. Thanks!!

I'm frustrated. Everywhere I've worked I've gotten great reviews and even leadership awards. At my last company my boss was promoted to CAO. She hired a director but made her VP of HR at hire due to someone leaving. VP ran 6 HR directors out of the co (we all left without jobs lined up). After I left my team quit & the CAO was fired. Now they promoted this VP to a Sr VP. I gave so much, got nothing, yet she fell into SVP. I have a new Director level job. How do I break into the VP level?

I am struggling with the fact that I have 13 years of HR experience in one capacity or another, along with a bachelors degree and my PHR designation yet companies say “I’m not qualified or they ghost me when I apply for HR openings. I am experienced in all aspects of HR. How are people with little to no experience coming right out of college obtaining higher level roles than I have currently? It makes my passion for the field just go away.

Since I am lawyer, I keep gaining weight and I feel like I can't help it. I try to make time to go to the gym but I always end up going like 1-2x a week. Same with diet. Stress makes me eat more. Any advice? Anyone with my same problem?

Former civil litigator. Now insurance analyst. Making more than I did as a government attorney, but I miss practicing on a day to day basis. Any advice? I know I would regret my quality of life if I jumped into a firm, especially without any experience billing, but I was thinking volunteer work, pro bono cases on the side to feel more fulfilled in my career. Thanks. Happy holidays.

Any labor attorneys in here? Or anyone with experience striking? My entire (small) dept is prepared to do so but we need more info. We’re nurses btw, in a niche field. Do we need to hire an attorney? We’re not unionized so there’s that. TIA!
