My firm provides general business counsel to the corporation my family member works for. My family member just quick and they offered her a severence agreement. The family member asked if I could look it over. I do not do any work for this corp, but my firm does. I would like to help my family member, but worried about my ethical duty. Thoughts?

Generally speaking, how long should you stay at a firm before leaving without a good excuse (other than that you don’t like it and want to move on to bigger and better things)? I want to leave my current firm but haven’t been here even a year yet and was only at my previous firm for a year and a half, so I’m worried about looking like a flake.
I’m an associate at a boutique law firm working on complex litigation and regulatory matters. I’ve worked at the same firm as a summer associate and the last three years directly after graduation. I’m worried that I’m not getting enough “practical” experience. If organizations say they are an equal opportunity employer, why do they ask about visa/h1b etc while applying. I feel resumes are not considered on visa/h1b basis and it’s indirect discrimination.
