Is it worth it to get a professional certification like SHRM/PHR? Not many of my colleagues have one and it’s not a requirement for my role, but I’m curious if it’s worth it in the long run
For anyone who’s started at a company fully remote (Covid or otherwise)… when ramping into your new role, what did you do to feel more connected to your team/sales dept? I’m finding that I have questions that I don’t know how or whom to ask, I don’t know who anyone is and my manager can be MIA. This is my first fully remote role and it’s thrown me for a bit of a loop

How much value do companies place on HR experience in a specific industry? My thought is that HR is HR wherever you go, and it shouldn’t be difficult to switch industries (e.g. manufacturing to financial services), mid- to late-career. But what has been your experience?
The slack ring is an anxiety trigger. I have nightmares where I hear the sound over and over and over. Then I wake up and it’s all I hear all day.

Thoughts on Grey Group? What’s the culture like? Is it cut throat and not collaborative?
The more I watch 90 Day fiancé, the more I realize it’s not about visas, or love for that matter. It’s about the desperation of people in low socioeconomic situations who want to do anything to either 1) get out of said situation and/or 2) feel some sense of hope. Just hits different with this new realization.
Is there ever a good time to work overseas? Enjoyable agency wants to extend my contract, but I’d been thinking about moving countries. Would you stay or go?
After starting a new job, did you receive a better offer? If so, did you stay at your current job or leave for the other opportunity?
I like consulting, but I am more interested in improving patient outcomes. Depending on the project I am on, usually that’s not a huge driver for the project or what my role focuses on. I am currently aligned to Health at ACN. I would like to move to industry where member centric care, patient outcomes, reducing disparities etc is at the forefront preferably using health technology. Anyone have suggestions?
What is reasonable salary when taking billable rate into account? I’ve heard one third of billable rate x billable hour expectation. Hoping to provide some back up when I negotiate my raise in January.
Is it ok to ask the recruiter in initial phone screening for salary range? Does it make it seem like you’re less enthusiastic about the position? Also, if they revert with “what range are you looking for” and you respond with a range 20% higher, will they not move you onto the next round?

So many ideas to write about, but as an educator I end up writing with “lessons” in my head - Culture, grammar, words, and it ends up more like non-fiction.

We live in a 2 bedroom apartment, and having our baby in January. The second bedroom is more like a wfh room for my husband, while I work from dining room area (we converted it with office table etc.). We are planning on not having a nursery, and converting my wfh space into a baby space (changing table, place for his clothes, diapers etc) since i won't be working for 4 months during my maternity leave. We want to also keep our second bedroom free incase our parents are able to visit us (cont.)

I also just got laid off! My last day is in 2 weeks. How do I tell someone who just texted me for some deliverables that I don’t want to do them because I’m laid off?
Serious question: has W+K ever had layoffs in the last decade or so? I don’t think I’ve ever heard about it if so.
Had a performance review discussion today. I was promoted to manager in October. The partner asked how long I had been with the firm (4.5yrs), then how long I’d taken for maternity leave. He then told me it was like I’ve only been working 3.5 years, since I’d been on maternity leave twice since joining. He was saying this in a negative way, and I just can’t wrap my head around it. WTF would make him say something like that?
