My beloved desk chair is reaching the end of its life, and I'm in the market for another.. but not sure where to look. I like trying before buying with anything that involves physical comfort, so …
For anyone missing a whiteboard while WFH: I picked up a big dry erase mat from Staples that I mounted on a wall. It doesn’t clean off as easily as an actual whiteboard but it does the job. They al…
New to begin a landlord. Has anyone purchased a generic lease from Staples or do you have one prepared by an attorney?
I’m looking for some EM Value exposure. Would you buy CHIS (MSCI China Consumer Staples ETF) or AIA (iShares Asia 50 ETF)?
Can anyone recommend a certificate or course that is actually useful for developing professionals and/or reviewing performance? I don’t want/need something that is just a credential, I’m actually looking to get some formal grounding in these two topics so I can overhaul processes at my consulting firm. Thanks for your advice!!!
For those of you who spent the time and money to get the PHR or SHRM certifications, do you feel that it actually strengthened your professional capabilities as on HR professional, or did you just do it to fit into the “HR Professional” crowd?
Need to define diverse talent metrics to create a scorecard. Challenge is that the available data is based on opting in/out of self identification, that data point can change dramatically YOY. Any recommendations on metrics and scorecard?
What are some best practices for handling an employee with dare I say, too much initiative? They tend to steamroll others and processes because they are so fast at their job and rather than taking a breather when done, start digging around for new projects outside of their scope. We value them but want to ensure others are given opportunity to thrive too.
I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼
Has anyone seen or discussed this Petition for SHRM must support Black Lives Matter & the LGBTQ community? I’ve grown increasingly concerned and disappointed in SHRM’s lack of vocal support for employment protections for LGBTQ+ and black and brown workers, especially as a black woman in HR. It seems like SHRM is overly focused on what is absolutely “legal” and not what is right. I’m of the opinion HR professionals must not only be “legal” but have a relevant and compassionate stance
I'm a little bit under two years in my HR career. I was hired on full time has an HR Generalist and I want to start studying for my SHRM-CP, but I'm a little bit intimidated on how to start. Any advice would be helpful. So far I am going to get SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Certification All-in-One Exam Guide by Dory Willer on Amazon. Are there free online tests to take that are comparable to the exam?
I would like to help those wanting to shift careers in HR, minorities, or women going back to the workforce, learn workday coding and ultimately help them get a job in the space. Is there any interest?
How long, on average, did it take you to study before you could pass the PHR/SPHR exam? Did you think it was worth it?
I recently started at a larger software company as an AE. As I’m getting more into the process, I’m finding things odd. Like, cold calls and emails are metrics I’m judged on more than closed won business. I know that’s part of the job but it seems strange I’m judged on it so heavily. And, I seem to be the first real outside AE hire as everyone else seems to have been promoted up from SDR roles, including all of my direct management. I’m questioning if I made the right move. Stick it out or look?
So, I’m currently interviewing for new job, and market is not bad, but I’m anxious and I am interviewing for every opportunity that comes my way (director/vp level, tech). Today, September 30 I received an invite for an initial interview for another opportunity. So I applied to this opportunity through networking on August 10 (!). It looks like a red flag for me and I’m thinking thankyounext, but again it’s covid time... Thoughts?
Hi there! I need some guidance. HR and global leadership rolled out some amazing new initiatives like not starting until 10 am on Mondays, no meeting Fridays and required 2 additional summer days a month. The problem is, my boss refuses to comply with the initiatives. He constantly scheduled meetings before 8 am on Mondays and after 7 pm on Fridays. He also doesn’t let me take time off. Should I go to HR? I’m really not one to complain but I’m tired and extremely burnt out. Thanks for your help!
Are you folks happy with your decision to make a career in sales? I’m young working in tech sales, but also have my bachelors in psychology, and could see my self happily going for my masters maybe even PHD and being a counselor.
I’m not happy where I’m at, my abilities aren’t being maximized as I’m spread thin, and I know I’m being undervalued. Recently graduated and in property management w/ 3-4 years sales experience. Currently on the hunt for Sales/Account Management roles leaning more towards consumer goods, then tech. Any advice?

Getting ready for my second busy season. Does it make sense that I have 75 hours in my ARMS through busy season? Also I still have one client that they didn’t add in my hours yet...
Looking for advice: 1.5 YOE. Really dislike consulting so far-WLB is terrible, very unnecessarily stressful, and the work is not interesting to me. I’ve been looking for other opportunities but nothing has come to fruition, and i wasn’t that interested in any of the ops anyways. I really don’t know what I want to do, just feel like I need to get out of this job immediately, even willing to take a comp cut just to find something i would actually enjoy waking up to do. Where do I go from here?
How do I answer the salary question in a recruiter phone screen? What’s a reasonable mid-level salary (raise) to ask for? A slight bump? Highball? Should I mention (a higher # of) what I make now?

So Facebook and Google reached out asking me to apply for jobs. I am currently interviewing at Google and said “no” to Facebook temporarily. Am I dumb? I am not sure I could work for Mark Z. Thoughts?
Happy Father’s Day out there. You Padres are killing it with your selfless dedication with your sacrifices to your families. Challenge yourselves to spend time more time with your kids. That’s the biggest regret I hear....to all the fathers that screwed it up get your $h!t together and be the father you always wanted. Cheers!!!
I think I need a place to vent anonymously. My district made the decision to have all remote learning through the first semester and teachers were given a choice to work from their classrooms or from home for the first quarter. Second quarter started on Monday and teachers were required to return to empty classrooms. Staff with school aged children are still teaching from home. That doesn’t feel right to me. What are others’ thoughts and experiences?
Is University of Cumberlands (Kentucky) a good place to do your day 1 cpt. I mean is it ok for your H1B application.
Book recommendation: can anyone recommend a good leadership book for aspiring (not current) people managers? Perhaps on how to get to the leadership level, or how to lead effectively as an IC. Cheers!
When you did your FET, did you choose the embryo based on gender (assuming they’re PGS tested)? I kind of want to but I also feel weird about it.
