I keep seeing posts that associates at mid-size/biglaw firms don’t get given the opportunity to go to court. Is this true across most larger firms, even if you lateral with some experience?

I am a lawyer (based in the UK) and have been practising for 15+ years (financial services/banking). I love being a lawyer but I would also love to do something more creative or more independent. Has anyone moved from law into another role or has anyone done something more creative alongside their full time legal career? I’m feeling a bit stuck!

Any tips when leaving a firm? Younger associate <1 year.

Difficulty balancing daily demands of executing on project needs while creating collateral/tangible assets for my practice.

I joined fishbowl a month ago and while I’ve seen a couple contentious debates but I must say I’m pleasantly surprised at how respectfully ppl comment on this app even when disagreeing. Usually anonymity on the internet brings out the absolute worst in ppl; they type things anonymously that they would NEVER say in person smh. But I really haven’t seen horrible comments here. Hours aren’t very busy for bankruptcy group at my firm. Seems like we’re waiting for a surge of some sort. A lot of advisory questions at the partner level but not coming down so quick. Anyone else?

Am I the only one left at the end of the month trying to bill 10hour days to meet hours because I slacked off at the beginning of the month? It’s a vicious cycle. Then the end of the month hits and I’m so exhausted that I need to take it was the next week... and the cycle continues
