401k question:
It seems generally advantageous to lump sum your Roth IRA each year as early as possible vs DCA since it can accumulate returns at a higher rate over time. That being said, does this apply to 401k as well? For ex: is there any downside in just front loading my 401k contribution completely each year if I can cover living expenses in the meantime? (i.e putting 100% of paycheck into 401k contribution until limit) thanks!

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

Our current maternity and paternity leave policy is not good for attracting talent. 12 weeks for mom only 4 weeks paid and no time off for dads. I’ve always been a big saver minimum 15% to maxing out my 401k since I graduated college. I’m married to someone who thinks 6% is enough and likes $$$ cars. Other than the cars, they dont really spend money. For the married 🐠, how do you have the conversation with them that what they are doing isn’t enough? I try to guide them and say you want the $$$ cars but the salary you have won’t get there and you’re going to have to find a job that gets them the salary…. Then the fight starts.

I just heard recently that if you refinance and your house appraises at 20% more than the amount owed, you can remove PMI. Is this correct? Getting a divorce and trying to keep the house but moving from a VA to a traditional loan and would rather not pay PMI if I don’t have to. House was purchased for $460k no money down (VA loan), refinanced at $450k to lower payments $400/month, now have $430k left on the loan... would it have to appraise for $516k?

I can’t stop feeling so behind all the time. It seems like every one of my peers doesn’t have to worry about student loans, car insurance (paid by their parents still) etc. I keep thinking about how if I didn’t have all these bills I’d maybe have some savings that I could be proud of. My investing strategy is just to DCA into an S&P 500 index fund and keep buying and holding. If I understand correctly, the sole disadvantage this has compared to a tax sheltered retirement account is that the quarterly dividends will be taxed?
