A lot of posts about getting laid off. Any in-house strategy or strategy / account / sales hybrid companies doing interesting work in Chicago?

Tax Senior here. I’m well liked around the office, I put in the hours and work hard, I haven’t had any dumpster fire projects, but I am a mediocre performer compared to my peers (not as strong project management, communication, not as confident). I just got told they’re firing me. Should I expect severance? Have other people been fired for similar? What did you do with your career?

How many days would I be able to stay If I Country if I quit (not fired) my job that I have a h1b for? Moving to Canada and need some time to close up shop here.
