Depends on your income and your husband’s flexibility to help with sick kid/ daycare closures/nanny vacations etc. honestly there is no good answer. I’ve done both and my husband has zero flexibility to help with kids so nanny works better because she’s at our house like 60 hours a week but we have the income to support that. Daycare is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper…about 25% of the cost of an overtime nanny. That being said our nanny is 20 and is able to commit to those hours because she doesn’t have anything else going on…. Also Meaning she’s a child in a lot of ways/ calls off for being hungover takes random vacations on short notice. It’s an extremely tough call. I would also say au pairs are very reasonable price wise but you have the issue with them being children as well. Just go into it knowing it sucks either way but it’s only temporary.
I personally prefer daycare because there are different levels of supervision, and the good ones tend to be really good. They also have more established safety measures. Pick up is something I am still struggling with, which is where a nanny would be preferable.
