Yes we do. I am at a BB in TMT. And we have 7 dedicated directors and MDs who only do TMT M&A. Similar set up for equity capital markets, & leveraged finance. investment grade guys span several sectors.

Thank you for the reply! As a follow-up question, how does one position themself to only work on sector-specific M&A? I imagine it’s a highly-coveted role. Also, how early on in your career can you achieve that? Is it possible to be an associate/analyst that only works on industry-specific M&A or is VP the earliest you can do it?

Or perhaps, a Director/MD in the M&A team who focuses on one particular sector?

Great question! This will be super important for your full time analyst experience

Maybe off-topic, but I’ve got a question related to taxes and withholding. 2020 was the first year that both me and my wife made full salaries in our high-paying jobs (she’s a pharmacist, I’m in consulting). We don’t do anything out of the ordinary to reduce our taxes, we just put ~ 6% each towards our 401k’s. No house or kids so our other deductions are limited. Just started doing taxes and got a shock that we owe big. Any others in this situation? Do you just withhold a ton extra on W4?

Hi! I have a few questions on the backdoor Roth in which I’ve done a bit of research online. When it comes tax time, will my 401k vendor (Merrill) give me the correct documents? I’ve just used turbo tax in the past but am worried of any documents I may be missing to adjust any tax. Also- when does the pro-rata rule come into play? I’m just nervous in the entire process as this is my first year doing this. TIA!!

Health question: Does anyone else suffer from nerve pain in their butt/hips from sitting all day? My research tells me it’s piriformis pain. It means my sit bones are irritating my butt muscle, which irritates my sciatic nerve. It can be excruciating and hurt even when I stand. I bought a fancy seat cushion for my office chair, and I have a standing desk. Nothing helps. The pain has been around for about a month. Anyone else?? What did you do?
