First, check if that question is legal in your state. A quick google search should yield that information.
If it is legal to ask, I’d suggest pointing out that it’s irrelevant for their salary negations but give them a larger number.
Scenario 1: they’re interviewing with an internal recruiter for a company they applied for. The recruiter should say their target compensation is $xxx and as if that aligns with their expectation. ZERO need to know what their current compensation is.
Scenario 2: they’re working with a head hunter to find a placement. The recruiter then would just need to ask what titles/jobs they are targeting with their experience and ask what their target salary is and if it’s too high/low the recruiter needs to set expectations. Again, absolutely unnecessary to know the current comp of the OP.
Their knowing my current and exact salary is not beneficial for me. What is good for them to know is the range I am looking for going forward. Being on the same page with money is good, but I also will not set myself up for failure.
The highest pay listed here is at least $10.00 per hour less than they should offer to the lowest pay offers.
I was recently hired as a closer. I realized quickly that the door knockers were giving false information to the homeowners offering lower monthly prices, when in fact, the monthly prices are raised as owning is more expensive than renting with their explanation. They also do not offer battery bank so you cannot go off grid in their script. They try and get you to eliminate the power company, but by not offering any battery banks, you have to work with the electric company. I left quickly through training as I also soon realize that everybody in the doorknocking training class or my closer training class has either been to jail or was in a mental hospital. It was a very unprofessional site I was offered to be put up in a Airbnb with others through training food was to be provided for as a diabetic. I expected this and there was nothing there so forewarned I did not have a good experience maybe you will.
Yes, go ahead and tell him .he is a headhunter, a recruiter. He knows what the wages are. get your foot in the door and then you make your own raises, especially if it’s a sales job. If you don’t like it after six months. Continue to look for something else.

And believe me, he knows what companies are paying
They don't get to know that. Respond with the salary you want.
Find a new recruiter, there everywhere. He only wants to know what his cut is going to be. I always go 10-15% more than what your making. Just make a caveat that your willing to entertain something lower if the posistion is right
Your current salary should have nothing to do with the role you are applying for. In most states, that question is illegal, and even if it wasn't, that's something you don't have to disclose.
I would tell them that I am respect my right not to disclose my current salary after I Google the salary range for the position I'm applying for on salary.com and the salary of persons hired within that company from the glassdoor. Then, I would include that range in my email based on research and give them that range.
There are legal concerns, this is a no no in some states. The salary question a recruiter should ask is, 'what are your pay expectations', but can not ask what you currently make.
I know how you feel because I feel the same. Sometimes the salary question is in triage, the software won’t let you go further if you don’t answer. If the software let’s me answer with letters (because most just accept numbers), I give them a wide range. It can be either or.
My response would be
“Not Enough , What is your offering window?”
They saw your resume and you obviously
Have their attention. I have stuck up for my value entertaining positions 40 miles farther for the same money if there is a window for advancement to either learn or make more money. As you do
I already know what I have and where I see it going. If it is not more than there is no reason.
basically, the job poster now have to includes their salary range. so you and the employer not wasting any time. it's not make sense if they ask you to give it first. because you have the right to not afford that information to them. it depends on you. they such a red flag.
